Kayla I just wanted to say you're one of the only influencers I follow who actually respected the writers' and actors' guidelines to not promote any struck work during the strikes. I remember you talking about videos you were waiting for the strikes to end to post, and I'm not sure if this was one of them, but I just wanted to let you know, as a WGA member, your support is seen and appreciated!

omg hi!!! ✿ As a small creator I am so honored to be included, thank you ( ੭˙ᗜ˙)੭✧˖° ♡ my "book recs based on movies" videos are some of my personal favorites, so I'm really glad you enjoyed them and got some recs. I have a script for part 3 of that series in the works! I do think We Had To Remove This Post got mismarketed a bit and ended up underwhelming many readers seeking a disturbing read with explicit descriptions of violence. But, I really enjoyed that the book didn't go into detail about the content they were moderating and instead focused on the horror of what that can do to a person's psyche. Also very interesting you likened it to Big Swiss, as I loved that one too!

Good to know, I was curious if they described it all in a lot of detail. I’m definitely intrigued in the workplace psyche discussion tho

I was so excited to find your channel through this video and have already watched some videos of yours. Your book recommendations are absolutely brilliant and I actually read 'Pew' based on your recommendation. I gave it 5 stars, absolutely loved it and even did a lot of research into the inspiration and background of the book after reading which is something I rarely do due to ADHD. So thank you for that recommendation and I look forward to watching and reading more

i had the same thoughts about We Had To Remove This Post! i found it so interesting that so many readers were disappointed about graphic content not being included, when the message (imo) is about our desensitization to violence and voyeurism.
@superblomper
@superblomper 11 ай бұрын
@@sarahlopod EXACTLY. I think by not explicitly describing the graphic content, it forced the reader to fill in the blanks and almost use their own experience with consuming graphic content to imagine what these characters were having to view every day. Don't get me wrong, I do love me some graphic horror, but I think that if the author had explicitly described the horrors these characters were viewing, it would've been a disservice to this particular story and detracted from the psychological horror aspect of it imo.

Better recommendations if you liked Bodies Bodies Bodies, as they're isolation trope/"And Then There Were None"-inspired YA thrillers featuring influencers and Gen Z culture: Never Coming Home by Kate Williams, People to Follow by Olivia Worley (I mentored this one!), and my 2024 YA thriller The Bitter End also falls into this oevre! (happy to send you an ARC if you want one!) Loved The Family Game but just such a strange choice for that movie.

I think an interesting future TBR could be related to something you said - you have people give recommendations for books that are similar to movies based on plot and then other people give recommendations that are similar to movies based on vibes... and see which one you give higher ratings to? I feel like you as a reader have shifted in the last 5 years I've been watching this channel!! I remember you talking a lot about very specific things you like in books (ie overly specific book recommendations type deal) but you've definitely shifted away from that.. probs because you got so many book recommendations that had those elements and ended up being not 5 stars. Although I guess that analyzing 5 star reads video was only last year! Anyways, as someone who also likes psychoanalyzing my own reading, it's been really fun to watch :)

Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan. Such a beautiful novella! I continue to be impressed how the author can convey so much in 110 pages. It's not Christmassy but it does take place in the lead-up to Christmas in 1985 Ireland. Highly recommend!

Ginger Snaps is also one of my favourite movies. I reckon you could build an entire readalike TBR with weird sisterly relationship books: Sisters by Daisy Johnson, A Slice of Cherry by Dia Reeves, The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides, When We Lost Our Heads by Heather O'Neill, and The Rust Maidens by Gwendolyn Kiste. That sounds like a weird good time to me 😄

There's a book called Come Join Our Disease by Sam Byers (I think it only came out in the UK) that starts off very similarly to We Had to Remove This Post but ends up going in a completely different direction. It explores similar themes, just with a lot more bodily excrement (like, a lot). It's hard to recommend but for someone who wanted This Post to be longer and doesn't mind things getting gross, they might get something out of Our Disease. Felt Jen Beagin-ish to me, too.

I know it’s a classic but have you ever read A Christmas Carol? It honestly is the OG Christmas ghost story and a lot more creepy and unsettling than most people realize (I think due to all the retellings). My husband and I always listen to the audiobook of it on our drive to my in laws (Tim Curry narrates the version we listen to). Just a thought!

This video was exactly what I needed tonight, now I need to go find a book rec for my own favorite movies! As for Christmassy recs: The anthology 'Hark! the Herald Angels Scream' edited by Christopher Golden might be a fun one, it's on my own TBR for the end of the year. Last year I read 'Once Upon a Winter: A Folk and Fairy Tale Anthology' which was great to read with a cup of hot chocolate while it was snowing outside. Looking forward to Falalalala-mas already!

Ashley Poston is a new must read for adult romance. Seven Year Slip was a solid 4 (for similar reasons) and The Dead Romantics was a 5 ⭐ all-time favorite. Funny to see someone reading We had to remove this post by Hannah Bervoets. Originally this was a bookweek gift here in the Netherlands. Every year we have week called bookweek in which anyone that buys a book (for I believe at least 15 euros) gets a free little novella that you can only get through purchasing another book in that week and after that you can't get it anymore. So this was originally one of those little novellas. I didn't realize that it had gotten translated!
