I love this - like he said, it's not a conscious decision on the music industry's part to disclude women from Rock music, but it's the lack of female participants within the Rock genre. But again, we shouldn't force women to take up Rock neither discourage men simply to 'balance' out the equality. There will never be a 50/50 in any genre (perhaps with the exception of pop) and as soon as there is I shall pray that it happened by mere coincidence rather than strategically mechanised... for that defies the purpose of not only rock but music in all of it's glory. Gender doesn't mean shit when it comes to music ability *drops mic*

Where were they when NME decided to ask that topic to the general public instead of people/bands/artists who would give more interesting answers back in 2014? This is good response

Because women and men like and go into different things.

But see that's the thing - tons of girls like rock music and music in general. I can't speak for wherever you live and the shows you've seen but I've been to a lot of shows in my life and for the most part the crowds are pretty evenly split between men and women. So if the interest is there then why aren't we seeing that same ratio among the acts themselves?

How many women actively try to get into rock music though?

I don't know if anyone has those numbers but I'd hazard to say it's less than men. And I think that's part of the problem for sure. I think this is as much, if not more so, a sociological matter as an industry one. I think it's a complex issue and there are many factors, which is why there's not really a satisfactory answer that's been provided (or that I've heard anyway).
