The peloton killing your knee means you have the settings wrong. Your leg is too cramped and grinding the joint. You probably need to raise the seat or move it back. I’d recommend watching a KZbin video (by a trusted source like an instructor) for proper settings.

When you pedal the bike sitting down, your knee should not be going in front of your foot.
