Indian Supreme court has some special powers. After BJP passed bill to remove Judges from Election Commission core committee, Supreme court got self alerted. Henceforth, BJP can't expect any favourable verdict from Supreme court if BJP goes against Constitution or Law which could diminish the power of Supreme court. I think its weird that Shekhar Gupta seemed to be almost minimising the reality of what happened by referring to the Supreme Courts’s intervention as ‘like in the movies’ and referring to the election as so tiny and so insignificant. Municipal Corporations are constitutional bodies. Who cares if it is for a small jurisdiction or ‘only’ 1200 crores? How big exactly does the body or its budget have to be for the result to matter according to Shekhar? Grassroots democratic bodies, already in a dire state, if allowed to be reduced to a farce is so obviously destructive. The supreme court’s order was a just intervention. The minimising rhetoric is strange and disappointing.

My small beautiful hometown - Chandigarh. BJP doesn't even take No for an answer now. Even if "No" is coming from election results. In the Chandigarh municipal elections, there was an AAP wave because of their wave in Punjab. But BJP did a lot of drama after losing the elections- from buying people to using muscle power. This drama is going on from the last 2-3 years. Just because of Modi wave, people voted for Kiran Kher. But better contenders for MP post should be Satpal jain(BJP) or Pawan Bansal(Congress).

If INDIA alliance comes to power in 2024, they have to pass the bill immediately against jumping MLA/MPs to Another party after winning from Parent party. This is mockery of Democracy. 1. If any MLA/MP resigns citing personal reason to favour Opposition Party to form the Govt , That candidate should not be allowed to contest in any form of election for next 15 years. 2. If 2/3 MLA/MPs forms group citing Parent party leadership failure to indirectly support the Opposition party, all 2/3 MLA/MPs should resign and contest By-election from whichever party they like or independent. What's ironic is that the BJP is the most powerful party in India, but still it is so insecure of others. Could this stem from a deep-seated belief that they are unworthy of such power? It would be intriguing to hear a psychologist's perspective on this.
