August 2 (1924) is James Baldwin's birthday. I wanted to spend some time with him today. I watched a discussion between Baldwin and Nikki Giovanni [ • Video ]. Then I finally read his essay The Creative Process that I have had bookmarked for months [openspaceofdemocracy.files.wo...]. If you like audiobooks as I do, sit back and listen as I read the essay while my abstract paintings float across the screen. During the Introductory section I wonder whether Baldwin's words would apply to my own creative process. Spoiler alert: Indeed they do! His mind was so astute and his ability to express himself was so well developed. I treasure everything I've ever seen by him. There were a few typos or probable errors of transcription in the copy I was reading from. I did my best. His main points are powerful and clearly understandable.
