Its aged in terminology but i found it very applicable to today. Look at online censorship, ai, alexa in the home.. theres the ministry of "truth" and the "telescreen" essentially. Watch the movie and the part where the cop car stops the dude walkin at night haha its like reality now. It was the one book i liked in HS. They made us read macbeth, Charlse Dickens, EA Poe i couldnt stand that crap. But 1984 gripped my attention.
@HeatGeek13 ай бұрын
Three things. 1) still worth reading because it helps you understand the world around us. 2) considering it was published in 1949, it's pretty crazy to consider how many authoritarian concepts Orwell grasped. 3) To me this is the most important. Reading 1984 clearly explains why they seek to oppress and control. You won't defeat an enemy you don't understand. Stay strong brothers.
@amadexmilby73093 ай бұрын
1984 is totally comparable to the current state of the world. It shows the deception that a government can create from seemingly simple issues like bodily autonomy. The use of censorship and coded subliminal messaging. Here's what I got from it; Nothing is sacred unless you make it sacred in your own life.

Personally, I can separate my life into two main periods: the one before I began reading and the one after. My understanding and comprehension of the world increased exponentially after I started taking reading seriously. The shift in my mindset was drastic and I can engage with abstract ideas far more deeply than I ever could before I started. Every book I have read has helped me in some way. I wish I knew more readers, but I'm also glad to be one of the few people I know who reads- I'm proud of it, it's an accomplishment to me, and not just any random tripe either. I recommend everyone to read the classics, not all of them, who has that kind of time? But there is a reason why the 'classics' are read and studied today. There are so many good older books out there, and it's good to get to know the men who came before us and realise that, hey, they weren't so different to us.

I won the Federalist/Anti-Federalist debate in one of my highschool classes on the Anti-Fed side. Recently I was recalling that memory and tried googling "Anti-Federalist" and couldn't find anything. Closest I thing found was talking about Democratic-Republicans which was another name for Anti-Federalists. I could swear I remembered searching "Anti-federalist debate points" in highschool so when nothing showed for the same search a decade later, I thought maybe my memory was wrong and they were only ever called Democratic-Republicans. Turns out my memory was right and we're living in a full on dystopia. 😅

Another great book I recommend is "Hero" by Michael Korda. It's a biography of lawrence of Arabia but it's so much more. It pretty much covers the birth of modern guerilla warfare and the start of a lot of conflicts in the middle east. Almost all of it still applies to today with tactics, mental state, food sources, survival, fighting large military forces with little groups, how movements start, and becoming a symbol.

If you're lost on military strategy/theory/science and looking to get your feet wet, The Art of War by Sun Tzu is still excellent reading material. Sure, he's been memed to death, but many of the concepts and lesson's are still important to know and utilize even in everyday life. The Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi is also pretty good in this same vein. Machiavelli's Art of War is also good since it provides pro 2A talking points. Asymmetric warfare is also a must, because at best you'll have a hastily made platoon that might know how to use guns, and at worst... dead. Tactics from the Ireland's IRA, Vietnam's NVA and NLF, Rhodesia's Fire Force, the Mujahideen and Taliban, and from the Russo-Ukraine War are all useful. What's even more useful is understanding counter-insurgency so you can know what mistakes to avoid and what methods to implement against other insurgent groups. Political science is also very useful, because in an SHTF scenario, understanding politics translates into better leadership when dealing with a group. If you understand how and why people are the way they are, you can make smart decisions that influence them. It also helps you understand your enemies better. Pretty much everyone else in this comment section has already given very good suggestions, so here's some different ones, as well as some social and economic theory: Discources on Livy by Machiavelli Conflict of Visions by Thomas Sowell Unmasked by Andy Ngo Fall of Civilizations by Paul Cooper The Quiet Coup by Mehrsa Baradaran Wrong by Dannagal Goldthwaithe Young United States of Distraction by Mickey Huff and Nolan Higdon Diplomacy by Henry Kissinger Poor People's Movements by Piven and Cloward (The same people that created a strategy to destroy the economy that the Dems are using.) The Great Transformation by Karl Kolanyi Anything from Edward Bernays, but Propaganda in particular is worth a read. How Democracies Die and Tyranny of The Minority by Daniel Ziblatt and Steven Levitsky are all the the biased leftist talking points regarding US democratic politics rolled up into two books. No Democracy Lasts Forever by Erwin Chemerinsky is same as the above in regards to the Constitution.

Good group of stacks. For emergency SHTF I recommend Peak oil survival by Aric McBay, also Stocking Up published in 1973 a book that helps you preserve food the old fashion way. For military/tactical books, Total Resistance by Major H. Von Dach, Fighting in the Streets by Urbano, Guerrillas in the Mist by Bob Newman, Citizen Soldier by Robert Bradley, Special Forces guerrilla warfare by Scott Wimberly. Study partisan warfare, thats what is coming. To really zero in on the totality of events that are taking place, read up on low intensity conflict. Reference FM Field Manual 100-20, everything that has happened and about to happen grows from this doctrine. It peels back the curtain to reveal the details of events taking shape. On personal protection I recommend Holding Your Ground by Joe Nobody, also Alone and Unafraid by Jason Hanson. Political book, On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder. He steps back in time to explain in plain terms how we got where we are and the mindset to understand

IMO, I really like the Orthodox Study Bible, has great a great book of wisdom called “the wisdom of Sirach” In addition to what was mentioned: Invisible armies, I think the author is max boot. Thucydides-Peloponnesian War, talks about how we fall into conflict. Battle of Crete- can’t remember by whom. Resistance against German paratroopers in WW2 Virtue of War- how the orthodox Church and other churches view armed conflict Moment of truth in Iraq was an interesting read - was pro Iraq war but gave a peak into the counter insurgency.

@GruntProof, a couple others of interest: For entertainment/ learning - the Six Silent Men series - Autobiographical/historical short story format of Vietnam missions with the OG LRRP Rangers. Both adults, and even any interested teens, will love these, the mission are totally bats#!+ crazy and you wonder how 4-6 guys even made it out. Has pictures of they guys and their kit too. Also, for kids/teens since I didn't see any of that mentioned, and I know a lot of people around here have those - the G.A Henty books. They are mainly meant for young boys, and are historical fiction wherein the main character, usually a 'young lad' of the time period has adventures that take place in any number of historical events from Egypt to Rome to the Crusades, Civil War, and everywhere in between. They're not all amazing (the storylines can get a bit repetitive, and it's written in 1800's English-speak) BUT.... if you want to give your kids something fun to read that is simplified no-PC history with a protagonist their age living it, pretty good.
