When I was a kid (now 71) I used to go on the Reading Ironhorse Rambles... typically engine 2124. THOSE were the days. Loved every minute and so glad they're BACK.

I used to chase back in the day, and for the two of you to get to so many spots, with TWO camera angles, is awesome! That's hard work, and a lot of planning and scouting. Thank you for this excellent footage. I was fortunate enough to be riding the July 27th 1968 trip with my friend John (RIP). We were headed towards LaSalle St station, and we both commented that we were coming in fast. Fan trips are known to be late, but we were basically on time and I think the crew pushed too hard. There is a LOT of track work South of LaSalle St. The train started to shake and I hollered "we're on the ground!", and we were. That's the occasion where the journal lubricator got messed up, around 21st Street.

Sweet video! For some reason it seems to me that 4-8-4 Northern types always have the best whistles (AT&SF 3751, SP 4449, UP 844, now this). Though this one seems to have two whistles and one's a little less impressive than the other.
@firelynx11086 ай бұрын
Yeah... You're right. Weird, huh?
@1309westernmaryland6 ай бұрын
One was mainly used for freight (the one heard first in this video) and the other mainly for passenger service. The RBMN used their Northerns on both.
@firelynx11086 ай бұрын
@@1309westernmaryland cool thing is you'll actually notice when 2102 is on test runs or revenue freight runs, they never use the 6 chime. I find it cool that they do that and keep things "realistic" I guess

Beautiful footage! Some of the scenes almost look like they could have been filmed back in the early 1950s (though back then, Reading T-1s like 2102 would have more often been used on Korean War troop trains instead of normal passenger service, according to a couple of older gentlemen who have shared some info online).

Awesome! Is there a train tracker to see the track route so I know where to go to film? If so what website or app is it?
@firelynx11086 ай бұрын
For these, just follow Reading & Northern on social media and they usually post there. The next two are on June 22 and August 17. Really, the best way to get the route is to go on Google maps or something and preplan where to go.

@firelynx11086 ай бұрын
Nope! Not that I know of. I think Andy Muller just likes having two instead of one on his locomotive lol
@chessieguy4845Ай бұрын
The real reason is that the Hooter was for Freight service, while the R&N 6chime was for passenger service back then
