This is just awesome how they seem to run her a full bore for a good chunk of the trip! What was the reason for throwing the diesels on the train at 15:39 taking her through the gap?
@firelynx11083 ай бұрын
The grade was near 2% in spots I heard so 210/ needed extra braking help. It definitely made for a good show later on the return trip as you can see near the end after exiting Pittston yard!

If not for nothing, fellas of the Reading & Northern, 2102 is easily the CLEANEST locomotive I have ever seen. From smokebox to tender she is spotless! Thats a rare thing. Well done!

Nice! Was there any specific reason why diesel engines were utilized for pulling the entire train at some parts?
@firelynx11083 ай бұрын
Down through Laurel Run, the grade is extremely steep so they needed the dynamic braking

does 2102 have 2 whistles on her?
@firelynx11083 ай бұрын
yep
@toomanytododge25943 ай бұрын
It has its classic reading 6 chime and a hooter the reason for the hooter is because the locomotive can be so loud at times it drowns out the 6 chime.
@maxm23173 ай бұрын
@@toomanytododge2594 You’re in the ballpark, but the Hooter is on the 2102 since she was originally used for freight trains like the rest of the T-1s. The 6 chime was added during the original Iron Horse Rambles from 1962-1964. Ol’ 2102 has worn numerous whistles several times down the years, but ever since the late 1980s up until 1991, that Hooter has remained a consistent whistle for the engine.

great video! is the white haven tunnel easy access?
@firelynx1108Ай бұрын
@@greaternyrailfan It's right along Tunnel Road actually lol. Where I was had a pretty steep slope down from the road, so I would recommend giving yourself some time to get down there haha. The reason I was behind those people in the shot was because I just got down and 2102 was already in the tunnel, and there weren't any really flat spots to set up

@@firelynx1108 sorry another quick question, heading north to pittston is there any good spots after solomon’s gap?
@firelynx1108Ай бұрын
@@greaternyrailfan Dupont is the one I got because of the nice scenery, but idk about anywhere else. Heading back towards Penobscot is obviously great anywhere since it's such a steep uphill grade and 2102 really has to work. I went to Laurel Run here, but Solomon Gap is another good spot I hear. Unfortunately I don't think I'm going to be able to chase the return trip out of Pittston if it's after 4pm in 2 weeks because I'm busy that evening, but I might try to get it there

Great video man! Hopefully, the chase wasn't completely foamer central. There are a lot of great shots and locations you can get along this route but you definitely can't get them all, whether it be because of terrain, time, or traffic. Nonetheless, as long as you had fun, then things should be golden!
