Күн бұрын

This video took us a little longer to produce due to a few technical and logistical issues. However, we feel the wait will be worth it. Penn Rail Videos proudly brings you our footage of the Reading & Northern's 4-6-2 Pacific #425 during the 2013 season. We know the 425 operated into the winter months, however, Penn Rail Videos was not able to capture this footage.
0:50 - Sept. 2nd, 2013 - We'll first view the 425 over Labor Day Weekend storming through the Lehigh Gorge.
02:01 - Sept. 28th, 2013 - Next up, the 425 is first double-heading with the Central Railroad of New Jersey 0-6-0 #113 in Schuylkill Haven, PA on its first "revenue" trip since being restored to operation. Video of the CNJ #113 in action will come at a later date. After coming into town with a grand entrance, we'll follow the 425 around as it powers the Schuylkill Haven Days excursion train down past Port Clinton and return. We'll even take an exhilarating ride on this trip!
11:45 - Oct. 13th, 2013 - It's like De Ja Vu! We've done this trip plenty of times in the past, so here we are following the 425 as it powers the annual Autumun Leaf excursion from Port Clinton to Jim Thorpe and return.
28:28 - Oct. 14th, 2013 - The following day, we captured some footage of the 425 on a photographer's special hosted by the Reading & Northern Railroad. We'll even see some exciting footage as we pace the big engine along PA Route 443. The pacing video was taken by a Samsung Galaxy cell phone!

The sound of the whistle being drowned out by the stack talk around 15:30 is fascinating. I fondly remember that on the "Q" trips out of Chicago in the early 60s.

It's almost as if 425 doesn't know which whistle to have. Do they have a cabinet full of whistles on stand by, or something?
@WSOR10C
@WSOR10C 10 жыл бұрын
The steam crew, the owner and some other people at the railroad all own their own whistles. Some of the whistles used on her in the past have been from other sources too.

WSOR10C Oh, Okay. But why do they put different whistles on her? Can't they just have one standard whistle?

PeaceyPraps The crew once told me "because its fun!" I think its kind of a cool feature of 425 never knowing what whistle it will have next

425 last year was a great year. 425 had that Norflok and Western Whistle with the double header with CNJ113 and on the next run. What was the whistle in the 5:00 part? Also, the other whistle return to/from Jim Thorpe was Awesome. Plus at the end of the video 425 pull three Hoppercar, the Passenger car, and the caboose end was great view during the mid afternooon run. Wounderful job with the video u did. Thumbs up and subscribed you.

Thank you good people for posting this and allowing us to watch it. Have you ever done anything on The Stewartstown Railroad in Stewartstown, PA.? They are not as active as this but are getting back into operation. This video is excellent. My Dad worked on the PRR years ago. The State of Pennsylvania is very smart in being railroad friendly, because these tourist lines bring in millions of dollars a year in benefits to Pennsylvania.

7-30-2014: Very nice video and audio technique. What type of Steadicam and vest were being used, especially during the Port Clinton (6:11) sequence? Even with a vest, it would've had to be difficult to keep the camera aligned overall so well! Good job! I do have to partially agree with 7845lptape about the lengthy time of the intro and subsequent scene information. Five seconds is long enough for most people to read the few words.
