From what I've seen others made the belladonna secret garden connection. When looking at interviews with the author she said it was the book that she "wrote for herself" in a sense. So maybe it's a play on one of her favorite stories as a kid?

Not to add to your TBR. But I'm currently reading a Middle Grade spooky that is just adorable. It's called Ghost Squad by Claribel A Ortega with a gorgeous cover. It's about a girl who lives in Florida and talks to ghosts. There are evil spirits that have come to town, so with help from her best friend, her best friend's witch grandmother, and a fat cat named Chunk. They have to battle the evil spirits and save the town by Halloween. It's roughly 237 pages and has been a quick fun read.

Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke is a favourite of mine, but I wouldn't reread it. Not because it was disturbing, though it did make me unable to eat meat for like three months. But more where I just don't have any desire to reread it, and I don't think I would enjoy it on a reread. I added it to my reread to see if I keep pile, and yeah. My five star rating dropped to a three, and I actually dnfed it. I love this book. I think it is a well written horror that the thought of it makes me immediately unable to eat meat. But it is also a one time read, and that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
