We went to New York City with a Bible Disguised as a Quran and read verses from it. What happens when people find out it was actually the Bible all along?

Here is a contradiction with what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 11:5, which indicates that women were “praying and prophesying” in the church. God cannot contradict himself. Paul is not against women speaking altogether...He simply does not want them to evaluate prophecies in the assembly because that would violate the male headship norm. Paul does not want anything to happen during corporate worship that would upset the headship principle that he so carefully exhorted them to obey in 1 Cor. 11:2-16. For that reason, he enjoins women in this context to refrain from the judgment of prophecies. He’s not commanding an absolute silence on the part of women. Indeed, he has already revealed that they are in fact praying and prophesying. He does, however, command them to be silent whenever prophesies are being judged. And the women are to do so out of deference to male headship. The Bible’s teaching may be controversial but it’s not self-contradictory. Paul doesn’t forbid women from praying and prophesying in the assembly. On the contrary, he wishes for them to do it in a way that honors male headship (1 Cor. 11:2-16). Among other things, that means that women may prophesy but that they may not judge prophesies (1 Cor. 14:34-36). This teaching reflects Paul’s very practical concern for women who minister in churches and how they might do so in a way that honors headship. That very same concern should mark every congregation-even ours. Why does nobody here talk about Quran 4 34? Where it states that men are "in charge" of woman..... keep you anti-Christian bullshit elsewhere.

Because the Bible is out of context. This passage was from a disciple. While we can infer a disciple could be divinely inspired, it does not mean they will not have bias from their culture. Anyone who has studied history in ancient times would know how oppressed women are. Jesus didn't actually apply the passage specifically for women, it was for everyone. In fact he didn't even tell them that men are superior to women. This male supremacy was written by his disciples who clearly have their own biases. Jesus even allowed divorces yet his disciples seemed to have contradicted that. The Quran of the other hand actually commands a women to be silent and submissive, to be beaten and raped and be treated like a slave. Quran is extremism. The person who dictated the Quran is also a paedophile and a child groomer. He even brags about this saying Muhammad has been observing Aisha ever since she was a toddler.

Most Christians don’t know how to answer hard questions. The same author also preached with several women in the church and tells the church to have women cover their heads to show they have the proper authority for anyone who doubted so that they can prophecy in the church. Quoting one verse sure can do a number on the entire thing. Paul isn’t talking about teaching, he’s talking about how in Ephesus, the women (not all of them as some of them were business savvy or had some informal education). Would all sit together, and because they weren’t used to sitting and listening, they would begin to talk and it would get louder and louder until the pastor would bang a big stick telling them to be quiet. Paul is telling the women not to talk in the church. Not that one cannot participate, but shut your mouth during the service. In fact, in rural part of Turkey near Izmir is still this way. Had the chance to hear a minister from there speak, and his church trains people to disciple the women no more than three of them at a time, and can only speak five to ten minutes before they’re off with something else. This isn’t because they’re unintelligent, but sitting and listening for extended periods of time is a skill developed from childhood, and when a person is deprived of it, their brains do not learn how to retain focus for long. This goes for men and women. Gotta read the rest of Paul’s writings. Either this verse is being misunderstood by us, or Paul was wishy washy and controdicted himself over and over again from one chapter to the next. Usually, feminists stick to the verses of Paul setting up women to lead, and misogynists like to quote these verses in isolation. Both are incorrect, but totally reconcilable.

@@PolyglotGremlin I’m an absolute Bible nerd 😅 My favorite way to study the Bible is verse by verse and to stop at any detail that I don’t get its relevance, and figure it out. There isn’t one single detail that’s unimportant. Like in the Gospel of John at the wedding in Caana, Jesus has the servers at the wedding fill. stone jars and turns it into wine. “Stone jars”, why not just say “jars”? There’s gotta be a reason, so I research it until I figure it out. In this case, the stone jars were for ritual purity and the water was set apart for holy use for the Lord. Hence, the detail saying Jesus took water that was set apart for God’s use and turned that into wine, rather than from the terracotta jars that were for people to drink. Verse by verse, and I find I sometimes stop 1-2 times a verse 😊

In this passage Paul clearly states that women must keep silent in church. If this prohibition is interpreted absolutely, as some do, women would essentially disappear from the church. It would mean that they could proclaim the gospel to friends and family, but whenever they went to church their freedom to proclaim the goodness of God would be gone. Such an understanding of the role of women in the church is not supported by the Bible. Throughout history God has used women in different roles. Particularly important is the fact that prophetesses proclaimed their messages to God's people in public (Ex 15:20; Josh 4:4-16; 2 Kings 22:14-20; Acts 2:17; 21:9). Paul himself recognized that a woman could pray and prophesy in the church; that women are not strictly prohibited from speaking in church. God, through the gifts of the Spirit, granted them this right and privilege (1 Cor 11:5). The question is: “What did Paul mean when he declared that women should be silent in church?” We must keep several things in mind. 1. Tensions during worship: One of the problems Paul had to face in the church in Corinth was deciding appropriate behavior in church. Different groups with different ideas created confusion and tensions (eg, 1 Cor 1:10, 11; 14:26). This suggests that the women's speech that Paul prohibited was in some way contributing to this state of confusion. This is supported by the fact that the speech of the women Paul was referring to was related to questions they were asking and possibly comments they were making that did not contribute to the order of the church itself. This is indicated by the fact that Paul told them that if they had questions they should ask their husbands at home. 2. Preaching is not the issue: The discussion was not about whether women should preach or hold important leadership positions in the church, but about the appropriate attitude in the church when instruction is being given. Prohibiting women from preaching or teaching in church or from holding leadership positions is an abuse of this text. Paul was dealing with a very specific situation and was advising church leaders how to handle it. He was regulating the only kind of speech directly mentioned in the text, that is, asking questions. 3. Women should be instructed: Paul's admonition did not deny women the right to learn, but regulated the form that learning should take. He declared that in church they should learn silently, without speaking, submitting to the instruction that was being given. In the ancient world it was impolite for students to interrupt teachers with questions that in some cases showed their ignorance on the subject and disrupted the learning experience. In this case, Paul proposed that women should not disturb the master by asking questions that interrupt him; their education could also take place at home. In this more private place they could ask their husbands questions and be instructed appropriately. The fact that their husbands were expected to share their knowledge with their wives indicates that such knowledge was not their exclusive possession. In principle, Paul was affirming women's right to learn. This right to learn about the gospel simply did not have the result of increasing their knowledge for their personal performance. He implies that they were being trained to teach others. This text simply suggests that in some of the churches there were tensions between the women and their teachers. Paul attempted to suppress this situation by controlling abuse but not by removing the privileges of public prayer, learning, and prophesying (1 Cor. 11:5). In fact the Greek verb Sigao, “to keep silent,” could also be translated as “to be silent,” in the sense of not speaking loudly. We should not read Paul's statement to mean that women are permanently banned from speaking in church. The reason Paul gave for his advice is that such conduct was inappropriate for Christian women in the church. The church is not the place for a person - man or woman - to enter into verbal controversies with those who are in charge of instructing the congregation. Christian harmony is the rule.

There is nothing like that in the Quran. There is a verse that tells women to speak but just not to make their voices overly feminine when talking to men: O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other women: if you are mindful ˹of Allah˺, then do not be overly effeminate in speech ˹with men˺ or those with sickness in their hearts may be tempted, but speak in a moderate tone. Al-Aḥzāb, Ayah 32 This verse speaks directly and more importantly to the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon them) but when the Quran sets an example of the Prophet or any other prophet of God then it means it is applicable to us just not as strict. For example we are told to follow Abraham peace be upon him as it is in the Quran: You have an excellent example in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, “We totally dissociate ourselves from you and ˹shun˺ whatever ˹idols˺ you worship besides Allah. We reject you. The enmity and hatred that has arisen between us and you will last until you believe in Allah alone.” Al-Mumtaḥanah, Ayah 4

@@malsawmzela609 Your comment proves you have no idea what you’re even speaking about: 1 Timothy 2:11 begins with an assumption about women which was foreign in ancient cultures, ie, encouraging the teaching of women. This idea ran in contrast to most cultural and even religious traditions of the time. In traditional Judaism, women were not allowed to study under the Law, yet Paul’s words here start by following the pattern of Christ who taught women as part of His ministry (John 4:27-30; 11:28-30; 19:25). From the context of the Greek language, Paul’s prior comments, & the culture of the time, it is clear Paul doesn’t mean women are to remain “silent,” meaning completely soundless as suggested in some older translations. Proof is that the same Greek word - hesuchios - is used in several biblical verses where total silence is clearly not implied (1 Timothy 2:2; 1 Thessalonians 4:11; 1 Peter 3:4). Rather, the term simply implies a peacefulness or calmness in demeanor. In ancient times, religious expression could be loud, showy, even hysterical, and this is what Paul wishes to avoid within YHVH God’s church.

Al-Hasan al-Basri said: “This (the Hadith) means that it should not cause pain.” ‘Ata said: I said to Ibn `Abbas, what is the kind of hitting that is not harsh? He said, Hitting with a siwak and the like. [A siwak is a small stick or twig used for cleaning the teeth - Translator] Wherever you got that eternally deflowered from, it's either weak or entirely fabricated. Ever heard of Hoor al-Ayn? Age of consent was puberty back then. And there is nothing about "the best of plump". And cleaning your husband's clothes is not a good thing? I will say that’s a very valid point on the fact that many people are more open to the Bible than the Quran. But the main difference is this is referencing Paul giving his opinion on the matter instead of quotes from Jesus himself like the Gospels. In fact, Paul only quotes Jesus once in all of his epistles, this being in 1 Corinthians 11. The Quran, on the other hand, is seen by every Muslim around the world as well as the Quran itself as the perfect word directly from Allah. It’s unfair to compare the opinions of a follower of Christ to the supposed exact words of your God. I’m not saying we Christians are right OR you Muslims are right; I’m just giving the most probable explanation as to why people view your religion in a more negative light than mine.

Paul writes to all churches telling the women to not talk *sigao* meaning "voluntarily talk during clamor". This was the first time women were allowed to go to church services and Paul didn't want them getting in trouble. No one was supposed to talk except the three leaders and only one at a time (They also could be women). He previously asked them to speak prophecy in the Church, this again this reestablishes his support for women in such a sexist time. Allah tells mankind that it's okay to hit a disobedient wife and have sex with your slaves even if they have another husband. Those darn Christians sound *really* hypocritical to me.

It's not. Actually. It something Paul said. Let me explain it more. Paul is one of the disciples. And he was the only one (According to me) that didn't put women down or wanted women to be submissive to the world but instead he encouraged women and men both in various ways be it for not getting married or spreading the Gospel. He encouraged Priscilla and loved her work for spreading the Gospel along with her husband. So maybe read all of Paul's as well as Christ's teaching. FYI, Jesus Christ Himself has said this to his disciples that if you look at a women l@stfully then pluck your own eyes.

The context of 1 Corinthians (14:23-34) is speaking with "tongues". If some of our muslim friends don't understand, "tongues" is an unknown type of language that God allows one to speak when that person is filled with the Spirit of God. The women were asking their husbands questions throughout the service as to the meaning of some scriptural ideas. That is why apostle Paul was saying that women should ask their husbands at home.
