There's a funny connection between mushrooms and zombies! There's a type of parasite in the Amazon rainforest called Ophiocordyceps unilateralis fungus that takes over ants bodies and eventually their brains so that they are no longer controlled by the ant. When the ant eventually dies, the fungus sprouts out of their heads. It's so weird and this is why I believe so many authors are drawn to include fungus and mushrooms in horror books. Its fascinating and yet creepy 😂

yay i'm so glad you loved the writing retreat!! it was a 4 star for me, i loved it. i read her body and other parties last month and it didn't work for me, unfortunately. in the dream house was one of my fave books of 2021 so i'm sad that i didn't vibe with it. i'm currently reading our wives under the sea for summerween and loving it!

Usually I don’t mention that element of Mexican Gothic because I know some people think it’s a spoiler (I knew about it long before reading MG and I don’t think it negatively impacted my enjoyment) but I only said what T Kingfisher said in her authors note! So if it’s a spoiler she spoiled it in her authors note😂😂
