Reading the Stardew Valley 1.6 Patch Notes

It's Christmas! Patch notes have dropped, and we've finally gotten a taste of the new update! I'll cover the new content in more detail later, but for now here's a quick overview of almost everything!
While these notes mention almost everything new, it still kept a few secrets, and I'm sure we'll be discovering new things for a few weeks!

I got the ‘socialize’ quest from Emily in my new save yesterday! It gives you two days to talk to everyone in town, basically a repeat of the introduction quest but on a timer. The reward is “everyone likes you a little more.”

I also got a ticket for Lewis's machine, which netted me a tree sapling. I always procrastinate on them since they're expensive. Unfortunately, it was an orange tree and I planted it on Summer 3 so it'll only produce in second year

Not closing the animal door doesn't reduce the "love" level. It just doesn't increase it. Closing the door gives you a little extra. So if you don't close it, you lose out on some potential "love" gain, but you're not losing any actively.

Big change under fixes that I'm not sure he saw: 32:44 "Fixed rain totem used during a stormy day incorrectly making the next day stormy instead of rainy." Didn't know that was a bug, but it was a really good way to farm a lot of battery packs in the lategame. Shame it's gone now

Another big one, "Fixed exploit where you could keep temporary items like Qi Fruit by selling them to Pierre and buying them back later." I believe that was finally the last way to preserve them gone, so now you have to do the Qi fruit quest "legit" each time. Or, "Fixed tree stumps dropping seeds like full-grown trees." I never used it cause I didn't like leaving stumps around, but apparently a lot of people made use of this. Also, "Fixed geode crusher “off-by-one” bug/exploit." So even more reason to use the geode crusher now that it doesn't cost coal, and you can't use it after Clint to dupe a prismatic shard or something.

I've already got the iridium scythe and it's amazing. It adds the mod ability to harvest all your crops with it. It's so much faster to harvest crops with it than just going along, picking them out of the ground. With just a few swipes, you can harvest a whole field of crops. Great quality of life improvement.

The Jelly is not a fish, it's a food. You get it from fishing - just another consumable, but from the ones I've caught so far it's pretty good!!

I read that patch note as a way of earning just a little more happiness to more quickly max out happiness; and if you choose to leave the door open then it will just continue working the way it always has. No penalty to happiness for leaving it open in other words. Curious to find out which is the case though!

Hip hip hooray for the my long-lost cousins the ReptileEnjoyers Edit: nvm someone in chat told him about da tortles 14:22-ish missed the graphical improvement of building interiors 15:04-ish Missed graphical improvement of intro bus scene, and hats having night textures in the menu when it's night in-game 15:10-ish Submerged bobbers now have a new texture to fit the fact they're underwater 29:42-ish chests still only move by 1 tile at a time when hit, whether it be fists or tools/weapons 30:45-ish Bunch of UI improvements, EG sounds in the night having an icon, and a sand hourglass cursor during loading screens. Too many things to type out read it yourself 32:29-ish Less random character randomisation, so basically you won't get farmer/goth clothing duos anymore, pans no longer give the same thing if you pan the exact same spot twice(rip speedrunners), and finally about page no longer hides the version number when there's a tool tip 32:33-ish Map screen no longer closes if you click on an Area Of Interest(tm) 32:35-ish He said how lewis goes to the library on winter sundays now, but he edited out maru and penny now hanging out on summer sundays, maru tinkering on summer mondays, and the biggest piece of it all: If you reach six hearts with an npoc they will no longer visit their rival love interest. This DOES NOT affect clint, unfortunately. Rather, alex visiting haley, elliot visiting leah, and haley visiting alex.

Not gonna lie, the whole 'not being able to pick up rugs if there's stuff on them' fix is going to be an absolute lifesaver in my game. In my game, that's actually a common problem in the bedroom area of the farmhouse; there's this big purple rug that has a bed placed on it, 2 plushies, and a geode statue. Trust me, all of that stuff was an absolute pain in the rear to have to place again if I misclicked and accidentally picked that thing up. And that would happen like twice in the span of 3 in-game days 😵

I love those updates that add features that were popular mods. Having these things added as actual official features is great because it not only means we need fewer mods on our list, but it also means less chance for mod conflicts, the feature updates with the game, and, of course, vanilla players can join the fun with them as official features. Most people in any game, even on PC, don't use mods.

This is just a reminder to anyone who is like scratching their heads at the jellies Gus during the *MOONLIGHT JELLIES* event says this “I wonder what they’ll taste like” and instantly remembers that they are talking to us the player and quickly adds with this “I won’t never eat the moonlight jellies” so yeah we now can add jellyfish to our tropical aquarium (I started doing that with every new play through getting the deluxe fish tank and then fishing up every topic fish I can find and putting them in the deluxe fish tank made to be as comfortable as possible for my new little fishy house guests it’s just a pleasure that I enjoy 😊)

More than half way into new save spring, carrots are GREAT source of energy! The seeds can be dug up or exchanged at the prize machine. A gold star carrot gives 100+ energy. Early game this is so important. Salmonberry who?

What's crazy is how many changes this update made, which makes it feel almost like a Kind of like Stardew Valley extended 2.0 but it's also crazy that the mod author of Stardew Valley extended got to work with his friend who actually made the game in the first place so he was able to release an update to Stardew Valley extended on day one.

The NPC schedules part under Other Changes actually contains what for my money is hands-down the worst change in this update. Do you enjoy destroying relationships in the pursuit of your own friendship goals? Because if you want to max friendship with everyone in the town, you're gonna make Alex & Haley and Leah & Elliott stop hanging out with each other! No, not by dating them. Just get six hearts. I know at six hearts of friendship I personally always make sure my friends stop seeing people they ever might have romantic interest in. I already didn't love that storyline with Clint and Emily, but at least it was a one-off. Now it's a design philosophy.

It's esp annoying for Leah & Elliot - they weren't even dating! They just seemed like art buddies! I may b biased bc I never married either of them, but it's sad to lose them hanging out :( added a bit more personality to the town

@@salmence100 I just can't get over that it happens at *six hearts*. I wouldn't love it if it happened after the bouquet for exactly the reason you mentioned: I like LIs having their own lives because my farmer certainly does. But with a bouquet, it would at least require you to do a deliberate action to trigger changes. The game intentionally encourages befriending all villagers, and now playing the game as intended causes two independent friendships to see each other less. Doesn't matter if you aren't doing anything whatsoever romantically at all. Still happens. It's such a bizarre choice.

I got the garbage furniture catalogue out of the garbo today! No idea how rare but I added the trailer co-op house by the greenhouse with a cookout outside and made it all trashy inside with stuff from the catalogue and I am in love 😂
