the first of a five part series of rants on my favourite living fiction author, Neal Stephenson, in the lead up to the launch of his latest novel.

As a pedantic actually tard person, I gotta mention that Snow Crash was written in the late 80's. Stuff was changing so fast that even a few years matter.

Thanks heaps Hugo love all I have heard you share over time. You have helped me immensely at random times of my life for over a decade, and whenever I write poetry I often am reminded of yours and your style, I'm sure my style is heavily influenced from you. Anyway all the best brother and thank you again

I love Neal Stephenson’s writing, thank you for doing this video! My personal favourite is Quicksilver, which I just happened to be reading when I went to London and could geek out on the real historical places.

ah man, nice! Yeah, this little series of rants will get there soon enough... what a masterpiece!!

I too love Neal!!! Awesome you’re a fellow fan. Haven’t read all of these but a good number and they’re fantastic. On the Media just did a great podcast about how much tech bros love Stephenson but they seem to have missed all the lessons of that books and just focus on the gizmos. For instance Zuck doesn’t realize he’s Rife in Snow Crash, not Hiro 😂

Right!! Great point that I should have mentioned: snow crash is clearly dystopian fiction, but these Silicon valley gen X despots treat it like something to devote resources to actually bringing about and replicating. Bonkers

I've read all in that stack, except Zodiac. How can you say Interface isn't "fully formed"? I think it's a masterpiece, and it's one of two I've re-read so far, the other being Anathem. I will re-read them all, except Reamde and D.O.D.O. There's just the endless stack of books not yet read once. You want something awesome to read that won't make you feel like "this isn't as good as Stephenson"? The Egyptian, by Mika Waltari, Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa, or Hyperion by Dan Simmons.

Thank you for the recommendation! I will for sure look it up! as for Interface, I don't really know what I meant by that - it just sort of seemed like an earlier iteration of Stephenson pre-attaining of mastery. Still great! just not etherially great like later work. But if you think it's a masterpiece, maybe I should revisit!

What if you did a pateron to get rapnews doing a episode? :D
@hugothepoet2 жыл бұрын
I understand the desire for more Rap News!! But time has moved on so far there are so many reasons other than money that it won't happen. Not with me anyway! I left all the IP for that show with Juice Media, so maybe check with them if they will do it again. That was, after all, the intention when I left. All the best!
