Maybe a cozy mysteries as a bedtime books? More plot, with the cozy vibes, and there’s usually a little romance thrown in lol

I would definitely recommend the Jodi Taylor St Chronicles of Mary series. It has enough plot to pull you through but is quite light and most of all very very funny. Found family, time travel and many many cups of tea. Perfect late night reading

I've been doing my rereads before bed, lately either Discworld or Diana Wynne Jones. It keeps my interest because I love experiencing the story, but the familiarity is cosy enough to keep me relaxed enough to sleep.

Death and croissants, funny cozy mystery. Also agree with whoever said discworld! Anything comical! 🛌

🛏 Love that you will be doing more Vlogs Lianne. Living in NYC, it's been my dream to visit Scotland, especially Edinburgh. Now I get to see your magical Country, vicariously through your eyes. Thank you !! ✨ I love witchy themed books when I feel the need for escapism. The ALL Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness is a favorite of mine, with the first book, A Discovery of Witches being my absolute favorite in the Trilogy. ✨⭐

Maybe Cozy Mysterys? It's low stakes but they have plots that you want to keep reading to find out who-dunnit

For bedtime reading: The Witches of Brooklyn by Sophie Escabasse. It's a graphic novel, so you can probably finish it in one setting. But there are more books in the series

the jumper you're wearing while reviewing Magnolia Parks is so lovely! I get the hesitation towards romance without plot, if you don't get invested in the characters you're goosed. good luck with your search for a perfect bedtime book 🌜🛌✨

Potentially unpopular opinion on the perfect bedtime book: I find that my favourite cozy bedtime read is a re-read. I get anxiety from high stakes and not knowing how an issue might resolve, but throw that same issue at me in a reread and I'm comforted by knowing what happens. However, I enjoy reading books with more happy endings and not really dark fantasy or anything like that. But maybe you have a book or a series you'd like to reread that would help you cozy down for bed.

I love the Witches of Thistle Grove series. The first one is Paybacks a Witch, and it's sapphic! I flew through the first 3 books...

A couple of recommendations of before bed reading: The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison is a cozy fantasy that does have a plot with stakes, but nothing that gets too dark. And Soulless by Gail Carriger, which is technically a steampunk romance, but you said you had enjoyed some of those in the past, and in this book especially, the steampunk elements are not very prominent. If you read the first page and aren't intrigued, I'd be shocked!

First, I just loved this blog. The clip of you and Amy on the couches, reading and giggling, was just perfection. I also had fun listening to your ups and downs with the books you mentioned. I addmittedly had them in, and out, and one back in, my book order cart throughout the blog. I share your setiments on romance. I want to love it, but I'm a very tough sell. I did read one recently, that might be up your alley. It's called, "Love and Other Human Errors" by Bethany Clift. It's dual POV with characters that are immediatly lovable in thier quirks. Their is a plot that keeps the story moving forward, even alongside the romance (which is more of a side plot). It's heartwarming, funny, and for the most part...will not make you cry before bed! One of my favorite "romance reads" I've ever read!

🛌 I don’t really have an suggestions, sorry. But, I do resonate with your feelings on ‘romance’ novels needing to be more than just about the lust factor. I think when you get to a certain maturity, you realize life is about so much more. It’s not about the sex appeal or the attraction, it’s about the day to day real life of just living and learning and knowing another person. It doesn’t have to be heavy, but there needs to be a plot with a good relationship thrown in.

Maybe try something like cozy fantasy perhaps. Low stacks but the characters pull u through that might work.

Lianne what about non fiction before bed? A more sciency non fiction. That definitely will help with the sleep and doesn't make you as emotional. I saw you bought Fruits Basket. I just reread all the manga. I love it. I love Kyo so much that if i happen to have another orange cat in the future, that will be is name. It is funny at the times and the yearning is there, but also deals with heavy stuff. Family abuse is very prevalent in the series so if that is something you can only tolerate at times, try to be on the right head space for it. I have the first 8 volumes and wanted to buy all the rest to have my collection completed.

Please read book 2 by Jessa Hastings, the characters are so much more tolerable whilst still offering the same alternative slant on a romance (i.e. it cant always be happily ever after!). BJ and Magnolia do feature but as side characters and their flaws are actually called out by the perspectives of others which I found really refreshing!

Sorry if this is something you've already tried and I missed that, but would a middle-grade (fantasy) work as bed time read? I can't read anything too exciting before bed, because I'll end up in the "just one more chapter, oops I need to get up" cycle 😅 so I often gravitate towards old favourites, middle-grade or sometimes short stories. Not sure if you've ever read Peter Mayle's Provence stuff, but those might work too. They're my go-to feel-good books about their experiences in Provence, also his A Dog's Life is imo a fun read. Was lovely seeing this vlog, hope you'll find your bedtime read 🛌!

maybe this is dumb but have you tried reading middlegrade books before bedtime? I really liked books like the Pages & Co series, Land of Roar, Upside down magic, Nevermoor, How to Train your Dragon, or maybe even a book like Howl's moving castle or the hobbit?

🛏 I think a fantasy-romance series you might enjoy is The Witches of Thistlegrove by Lana Harper. Three books out at the moment, each with a different couple, all taking place in the same community of witches. Each one has a pretty significant Higher Stakes plot alongside the romance, and (imo) they've all been amazing so far! (And Thistlegrove itself, the town, is absolutely its own character!)

This is exactly my issue with romance books, I just can't bring myself to care enough that I really need to get through to the end 😅Its sad that I won't read Things we do to our friends, the first half sounds great but I would DNF the second anything happened with an animal! I really think you would enjoy The Magic Fix by Mark Montanaro, its all the fantasy tropes and its so fun to watch everything fall apart but for some reason feels very low stakes 🛌

I have massively fallen in love with the books by Edgar Cantero, but I don't think they would make good bedtime reads. "Meddling Kids" I highly recommend- it's a fine found-family mystery story with strong Scrooby Doo vibes...and the dog is just so adorable.

A series that I absolutely loved that would be perfect at bedtime is Darkwood by Gabby Hutchinson Crouch. It's kind of fantasy, kind of twisted fairytale, with some lovely relationships that are woven nicely into the bigger story as they should be. It's got found family, it's queer, it's very funny, and the story is delicious, but the very best part is all the quirky and amazing characters (for example, a talking spider named Trevor who thinks he'd be the best at sneaking around and spying because he has a great collection of tiny hats he could use as disguises, and I adore him!) The books are so much fun, I think you'd really enjoy them! ❤

Have you tried Beth O'Leary or Emily Henry? They're both much stronger on the family and friends dynamic with a side of romance which might work better for you. My favourite books to read before bed are trashy paranormal romances, Ruby Dixion and Lily Mayne sort of stuff. Total suspend your disbelief books.

I don't know your thoughts on Jane Austen but I would find that a good mix of romance with wit and intelligence. However sometimes because the language is different it takes more concentration which can be hard when you are already tired. I'm sorry I can't think of any romances that would work 100% but a book I adored was "the girl who fell beneath the sea" by Axie Oh. It's a YA but It was so beautiful that you might like it?? One of my favourite fantasy romances is called "Beauty" by Robin Mckinley and another is "a Deal with the Elf king" by Elise Kova. I don't know if any of thee will help but good luck! I would agree with what other people have already said and go with a favourite! Something you know the vibes of that way you can happily enjoy the book without the tenseness.
