I cannot wait to read Legendborn now! My kiddo gets the OwlCrate box, so I'll borrow hers. As I was watching this, my hand-signed copy of Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse FINALLY came (it had to be mailed from the bookstore to Rebecca Roanhorse herself, who hand-signed them, then shipped them back to the bookstore, who then packaged all of them to mail out - Whew!). Totally worth the wait - so much more gorgeous in person than in a picture!

The conversation with your mom about stuffing just hit me so hard. My mom passed in May of 2020 and I just realized that I will never again get to ask her how she made the stuffing. It was always feel, sight, and taste. She added more chicken stock until it felt right. Treasure those moments because you don’t know when the last one will be. ❤️

She does catch on to combat training quickly, but she also takes some severe beatings during training combat resulting in several visits to the healer for serious injuries. When she's uncovering major information about her mother near the end she's supposed to be resting from severe injuries instead of visiting rooms and being carried to places etc. (trying to avoid detailed spoilers). So yes, I agree it happens fast but there are consequences that are often skipped in other series, which are then of course quickly dealt with because of the magic you mentioned which is obvious from the cover as being part of the story (again trying to make sure I don't spoil).

My mum is the same. When I moved away from home and tried to bake and cook traditional dishes during the holiday, I used to also struggle to quantify with her. It's because they make these dishes based on experience and they also do it so automatically. I've asked my mum to write down all her recipes now.. The family traditional recipes are so valuable

LOVED Legendborn. Really loved her underlying commentary on race. That book was an A+ for me and got me in the mood for some more Arthurian themes in the immediate future My mom can give general recipe details (though occasional it’s a struggle lol) but my old school first gen Italian relatives give recipe info in measurements like ehhhh a handful maybe?
