Vampire Academy was super popular back in the day. Everyone was just raving about the series. The movie didn't really do the series justice. Richelle Mead seems like a terrific author. She's able to draw in a huge mass of readers to actively discuss about the series and their nature.

Can I just say, I loved this series so much as a kid. But, even back then I could recognize that the first two books weren’t as good as the rest of the series. Like the third book definitely picks up and then it goes from there. This book series legitimately set the standard for me. I read the series back in high school and it was definitely what kicked off my love of vampires as well as my teenage reading. I re-read the series this year and honestly still had the best time. Although I can 100% see your criticisms and the writing definitely shows it's age a lot. The TV show has made some very odd and interesting changes to the plot line and that is part of what's keeping me watching. I want to see where they're heading with these changes and how deep into the book series plot line they're going to go. The show does feel fairly removed from the original story line but it's still keeping me intrigued, cringey as it may be hahah

The vampire academy serie has been my favourite serie for many years when I was 14/15 and it still has a special place in my heart today that I'm 19. I don't love the first book, in my opinion it's the worst in the serie, but already from book two it becomes way better, the plot gets more interesting and you start to see more characters characterization. I feel like in book one Richelle Mead's purpose was to introduce us this new world she creates from zero in these books, so for this reason she didn't focus much on the characters characterisation. I remember reading these books so fast, like I finished one book and I immediately started reading the following one, it was such a good time of my life! My advice is to try to read at least the second book of the serie, and she what will be your thoughts after reading it. I loved these books so much omg❤️

I read this series out of order back in high school (3, 2, 1, 4, 5, 6 was the order I read them) and I loved them at the time, but the last book angered me so much I refused to ever touch them again. The older I get the creepier Dimitri gets, and the more I can't imagine ever picking them up again. God, it would've been so much better gay tho.

I have the same feeling as you, the 6th and final book ruined the whole series for me SPOILER I knew Rose and Dimitri will got back together, but not in the way they did (at the expense of Adrian), what angered me the most was when she had the talk with Adrian, she put herself as the victim...and Dimitri didn't even apologized to Adrian (he should have)...this book make/made me so angry...and the follow ups books written in Adrian's pov, Adrian and Dimitri worked together but there was no discussion between them...I prefer to forget I ever read this series.. thank you for having let me vent

VA & Bloodlines was my life like 7 years ago. Been wanting to do a reread. So maybe no is the time. I’m the odd one out though as I actually really enjoyed the movie and was so pissed they never continued with the rest of the series. It’s not the same as the book. The series as a whole I think is were my own personal love is not a books specifically and if it were defiantly not the first one... Maybe blood promise though..... I didn't read V.A. growing up but I read the whole series this month. It wasn't bad. I especially loved book 3, gave it 4stars. I didn't like the dimitri ship, but it was fun. What I didn't like about the show adaptation was the way they took focus from Rose. All her badass moments were given to other characters.

I'm 8 days late but I just wanted to say that if you end deciding to read the whole series, to do it before you watch the show. At this point I'm not sure how many episodes you've seen already, but the show contains major spoilers for the later books in the series, because it's actually more based on the later books than the initial ones. There's a lot of plot points from book five and six that were mentioned in the first season already, and if you're someone who wants to read the books the show can really spoil that for you.

The books don't stand up at all, the show improved every character. Rose was whiny af in the book, and she's not in the show. All the potential love interests have amazing chemistry, especially Rose and Dmitry. Actually, Rose has great chemistry with all the characters, especially Lyssa. I've just watched episode 8, and even though I love Rose and Dmitry, I also love Rose and Mason, which quite frankly is amazing. The actor who plays Dmitry is British and he has a Mancunian (Manchester) accent, which is why he sounds so off. In the show he isnt meant to be Russian, he just lived there for a little bit. The show is actually stellar, and if you loved Vampire Diaries and the mess that that became, I think you should give VA a chance. Like you, I hated Damon and once him and Elena got together, her character massively regressed. I feel that Plec and her team have learned a lot from how they treated characters (and actors) in VD. Her obsession with Ian was so obvious and embarrassing. She doesn't seem to be suffering the same fate with VA. Also, they got rid of the pedo vibes, all the characters are 18 or over, and the teacher/student dynamic isn't the same in the show as it is in the books. In the second episode, you can see the actors clearly start getting into their groove, and they start levelling up. If you can watch it without your cynical head on, and the constant comparison to VD (it's a totally different show), I think you'll like it.

I have always had a love-hate relationship with vampire books. I can't seem to find the perfect one. I think I read the first book for Vampire Academy, but nothing more. I have watched the movie a lot though. It's far from an Oscar-worthy performance, but I liked to watch it when I needed some fun brainless entertainment 😅 Might give the show a try, but it will most likely not be anything for me. As for Vampire Diaries, I loved the show, up until season 5. I have rewatched the first four seasons many times. Then I tried to read the first book, and I DNF'ed it. Probably too invested in the show and the characters at that point, but the book disappointed me. Speaking of books adapted into movies and films, I also had a bad history with Shadow Hunters. I was so mad at how they did the story in the show that I turned the TV off and had to go for a walk, because I love those books and the story in the show had me fuming 😅

I'm not even surprised or disappointed that it's been canceled. I honestly did not like where and how the show went. I was waiting for a moment where I'd feel something. The book had me sobbing, cackling and despairing. In the show only the Andre twist made me happy. Lissa got back up in court. Oh no he's strigoi. Jk. Dimitri was not Russian! (screw Putin. You mean there are no Russian actors in the west?) and i loathe the pronunciation of his name with the english R. Give me a rolling R damn it!!! And Rose had sex with Mason while still in a complicated relationship with Dimitri. Hate that. She was way less likable because of that. It wasn't enough story wise. And it was a different feel to have the actual characters "misrepresented". Like the essence of VA that made me love the story was gone. The attempt to relate to the way the world is now, was bad. Cos the world now is happy with mediocrity, fucking around and hero complex syndrome. Yuck. I don't care that it's been canceled at all. Has anyone watched the premiere? I watched it live. I thought i was in the twilight zone. Not at all what I expected. I felt like I was watching a jubilee or buzz feed video devoid of any real substance or meaning. The cast tried. But even they can't transcend that script/plot. Can't believe even Wednesday glaringly outshines VA. And they didn't even have a hot vamp. They had an awkward bee boy. (Whom I like☺️) Richelle Mead deserves an apology.

I didn't get into TVD that much (I was more of a Twilight girl back then, and when I did watch TVD, I was more of a Stefan's girl than a Damon) but I did read Vampire Academy and I loved it back then. I didn't even seen the movie and I'm scared to watch the show. I've moved on to TTRPGs (table top role playing) and there is a game called vampire: the masquerade, and they do vampires MUCH better. highly recommend watching that (even though it's three hours long, do have it in podcast version) and also it's diverse, look up LA By Night and if you want, NY By Night on KZbin. Also I do also reconmend Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward (look up content warnings for these books), The Night Huntress series by Jeanine Frost, The Vampire Huntress series by LA Banks and I'm gonna read this soon, The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh and Fledgling by Octavia Butler
