I recently received 5D Tactical's pro jig. Wow! What a quality tool! I have completed my very first lower with no prior machining experience. I decided to go with 5D because even though their product was a little more expensive than the others it looked like to me that they had really put some thought into their design and that would pay of in the ease of use and degree of finish especially for a milling noob like me. In addition after i cleaned up the tools it looked like they had never been used. With basic care the jig will last forever and if you go slow and use lots of WD40 i think you will be handing down the drills and milling tool to your grandchildren. If you are shopping for an 80% jig you will not regret this one. It's so easy to use it makes it fun. I wish I had more lowers to mill now. If the gun grabbers ever figure out how easy this product makes the 20% completion process they will push hard to have it banned. Disclaimer: I do not work for or sell any 5D products and I do not own stock. I am just a very satisfied customer. P.S. If you don't already own a router get the model DeWalt DWP611 it takes mill B and requires no adapter. It's cheap and availible at Lowe's. I think this is the baseline one that the jig uses although all the other will of course work i am sure.

@stevenwagner9912 Жыл бұрын
Going to have to get one of these. I had given up on trying to finish a lower after destroying two. The mill would slip out of the router cooler and go through the bottom. I even got a new different brand router and it happened with it. My first was a HF cheapie. So I got a dewalt and it did the same thing. Tried every trick I could find on the Internet. Made sure everything was clean and dry. Tried a tiny amount of torque clear up to everything I could get on it. Had the mill come out once and it shot across the garage. That's when I quit.

how many lowers can 1 end mill complete, on average (Forged)?

Is there a reason why the 5D Tactical pro router jig cuts the trigger slot way over blue print dimensions? Also, could you heat shrink a 1/4" end mill into the tool holder?
@ChaoticWrath3 жыл бұрын
Are you talking about the depth of the 2nd stage, by any chance? I did notice that one of my completed lowers is VERY thin at the trigger slot...
@donaldhollingsworth38753 жыл бұрын
@@ChaoticWrath It is just the size of the trigger slot. Even when you drill the pilot hole, the trigger slot is too wide. Then when you mill the trigger slot out, the width & length are over size. The trigger slot should only be big enough (.3125 in width & about .550-.600 in length) for the trigger to fit into.

How about mill in the freezer, holder in an oven? I dislike heating tool holders to anything near red if I can get away with something lower, and use a differential temperature to achieve an interference fit (My Dad was a tool and die machinist).

Like the PRO jig...Couple of thoughts: 1: Apply several layers of tape over cutting surfaces of bit during the install - WHY? To help protect it in case it gets dropped. Such would also protect USER while handling bit. * I would assume new bit comes with a coating? 2: Gloves..... When heating up things gloves are called for... That said gloves can be both a asset and a liability during operations that the fingers relay "feel". 3: A magnetic parts tray /some kind of tray is handy to keep say that bit /completed assembly from rolling off workbench. (No/low cost option:Tray out of a toaster oven works good. :-) 4: Other thoughts... beyond hearing /feeling bit seat during the install... Could a line be inscribed on the bit to indicate it's been installed properly / Maybe length of amount that should be protruding given?
@RossPotts5 жыл бұрын
1) that endmill will conduct heat to the point it will just ruin the tape and gum things up. 2) gloves=fingers remain until you die 3) that much heat could possible demagnetize the tray. Probably better to just have a small tray with edges that prevent rolling around 4) no need to measure. When it bottoms out, it bottoms out. It cant go any further. And if the endmill is too long, yell at the manufacturer (after checking that you ordered the correct one).

Anybody try this replacement? I milled a polymer lower, then a 7075 lower (with plenty of tap magic), and managed to lose one of the teeth on my endmill. I know that shit happens, but I was pretty disappointed... No skipping, one notch at a time, and the first 2 came out perfect. I am not even sure when the tooth broke off, as I didn't notice until setting up for a third lower.
