With side chains such as these, the #1 carbon is the one that connects to the parent chain, which is what the zigzagged line is.

At 11:20 you explain how the sec-butyl comes from the secondary carbon and ignore the third on the alkane, but at the end of the video on the cycloalkane molecule you call the same sec-butyl carbon tertiary. Which is it?

why is it 1-methyl ethyl ? according to the rule, we need to go with ethyl first ?

The methyl is the branch of the ethyl branch. Think of the ethyl branch acting similar to the main branch with the methyl group sticking out. If you had hexyl branch which also had a methyl branch and an ethyl branch then I think the rule applies. Correct if Im wrong
