I love how you make the logos of the independent Baptist churches similar to the logo of the church you’re comparing it to. Really neat and fun detail and it doesn’t go unnoticed :)

I was baptized and married in a Moravian church. I often felt guilty as I wasn’t a true believer when baptized. It took almost 20 years but I came to love our Lord and have let him into my heart. While I am no longer Moravian, It seems that I took a little of them with me as John the Baptist is my Confirmation Saint. Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world.

This was so interesting!! There is a Moravian church close to me and I wondered about it. Your information leads me to believe, it’s a very down to earth church. Sounds great

Your video came up as a suggestion from KZbin because of my frequent viewing of spiritual things. Coming from an independent Bible church background in attending a Baptist church for much of my life I find this video quite interesting but also a little discouraging. I currently live in Bethlehem Pennsylvania which is originally on Moravian community. So I have some Moravian friends and also I have been spending some time researching what Moravian’s believe. One of the things that does impressed me about the meridians they are very open to a larger body of Christ not just a particular denomination body of Christ. One thing it always discouraged me when I was in the Baptist church that I felt like I was somebody special because I believe a certain thing not because of my personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Your presentation was very good and you did list a lot that was very accurate. I guess the thing that concerns me the most is that when we get to heaven there is when we get to heaven there’s not gonna be a corner set out for the independent Baptist church or the Moravian Church but they were all going to be worshiping the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior because he gave up his whole life for us. So I feel that the body of Christ is not pertain to every little bit of what one particular denomination believes. One thing I’ve always appreciated about explaining to people what a Christian is and what a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ is that it’s not the church I go to but my personal relationship with the Lord Jesus that makes my spiritual life real and a wonderful thankfulness in my heart for what Christ has done for me. So simply put I’m not sure if I was not a Christian what this video would really do for me to become a Christian. I would say they don’t know what they believe instead of saying I know who they believe them and it’s not a church but a person called the Lord Jesus Christ. God bless you and your pursuit to expose people to spiritual life

It seems like the Moravians are much more liberal today than they would have been historically. I'm a little disappointed as I really like the missions model exemplified by the Moravians. They never sent a single missionary or family; they sent them in pairs. Not only is this closer to the model we see in the new testament (Paul and Silas or even a larger group traveling together, preaching the gospel) but it helps missionaries fight off discouragement and provides a measure of support. I do believe that us Independent Baptists have taken the Independent part much to far, in that we are often so focused individualism that we struggle to work with others, even when we agree on doctrine. While serving on the mission field in Canada, my husband and I talked often of how much help another family would be in the work. Someone to go visiting with my husband, a friend to encourage us when we got discouraged, someone to help in the small services we held so my husband wouldn't have to do it all. There was just too much for us to do on our own and another family or couple could have helped us so much.

Thanks for sharing these insights into the Moravians. About ten years ago I was researching pressure from Andrew Jackson against the Cherokee in southern Tennessee and northern Georgia. My research identified Moravian missionaries working with Cherokees and the effects of pressure from Andrew Jackson.

As an active Moravian, I think you did a fantastic job on this video. It is very informative although I do have a few comments. First the way you pronounce synod. Second is the population of Moravian’s in North America. I believe 60,000 was around the 1940s, today I believe the Moravians are only 20,000 in number in North America. Third is you could have included a little more history on the church. A great place to start would be the exile from Moravia to Germany where they met arguably the most important Moravian in Moravian history, Count Nicolas Zinzendorf.

I grew up just 3 blocks from a fully restored Movavian village called Salem. It was incorporated into a city that was jointly called Winston-Salem. The village is in full traditional dress with a bakery, shops etc. The original settlement was the only colonization that had zero trouble with the Indians and was a haven for escaped or freed slaves even if it put the village in danger. Salem means Peace. A large statue of a coffee pot is in the village. It represents fellowship towards all. A word about love feasts... I have never in my long life experienced such a feeling of warmth, sharing with my fellow man and happiness just to congregate. Every Moravian Church has many love feats each day and thousands of people from all denominations and from no denomination happily gather. It is a city tradition. You are given a candle with a red ribbon and there are no other lights. The combined glow is Heavenly as if every single person creates together this magnificence. Then .singing begins. Moravians have a strong music culture. After a while the buns and coffee come around and you greet your neighbors and talk for a bit. That's it. Loving fellowship. The Moravians are special and to this day are my favorite flavor of Faith. As for John Wesley...Moravians are deep in the clear well of God. They will make you think.

That's so cool! My story is quite similar to yours. I grew up around Moravian culture since I live near Winston-Salem. I went to Old Salem for fieldtrips countless times, and my grandparents attend a Moravian church in Walkertown (though they were both raised Presbyterian), and my grandpa serves on the board of trustees. I love the traditions, the hymns, and the Lovefeast (lol). My family and I always say the Moravian blessing before we eat together. It's really sweet and I think one of the least controversial sects in the Protestant tradition. I believe I heard that many 19th century Moravians sold themselves into slavery to spread the Gospel to slaves...which is incredible.

@MRTOWELRACK

I assume you mean Calvinist verses Arminian, or better yet, the modern interpretations of each position (which, to clarify, does not necessarily represent the namesakes nor origins). In which case, there are videos about each theological interpretation. The differences revolve around the path of salvation and its implications.

Why are you comparing several denominations to Independent Baptists? Are you an Independent Baptist? Is that the perspective of this channel? You do a good job of just telling people what the different denominations believe & practice in a matter-of-fact manner, without coming across as holier-than-thou. I mean, I knew you were conservative Evangelical b/c of the name of this channel, but I don't detect a great deal of bias. Of course, I'd have to get someone from the churches you discuss to give me there perspective on the information you present, but you cite your sources & quote them at length and you seem fair and non-judgemental, letting people make up their own minds about the various denominations. I have an eclectic church background, having grown up in the United Methodist Church, being involved in a Baptist & a Full Gospel Church in college, as well as a non-denominational Christian Fellowship (independent and only at our university, not affiliated with any larger organization like Inter-Varsity). After graduation, I joined a small house church. After a period of withdrawal from church life due to a crisis in faith, I became a founding member of a United Church of Christ congregation while simultaneously participated in a weekly house church that was a small group out of a local Presbyterian Church (PCUSA), and I have one credit from Eastern Mennonite Seminary. Later I became active in an ELCA congregation, then a United Methodist Church, then a different ELCA church. That's not to mention the various retreats, workshops, conferences, Bible studies, and experiences I've had with a variety of other denominations from Roman Catholic to Pentecostal to Charismatic.
