My Commander in Chief for 8 years! I will see you again in our Lord's Kingdom where we will be brothers.

I watch this over and over again with my eyes welling up. It reminds me a of a lost America. A much respected country under a leader who made Americans proud of their country, of themselves as a force of good, and proud of a man who is not ashamed to proclaim his belief in the Everlasting. May God bless you, President Reagan, for all the goodness and pride that you left this God`s country.
@johnoconnor46238 жыл бұрын
+Ogisito I will add this from the ceremonies that I know and hear "may the Angels come to greet you and lead you to Paradise. May the Lord enfold you in his arms and give you Eternal Life". My wish for you.
@johnoconnor46237 жыл бұрын
You surely can say now "a lost America". Now it has a "leader" who is of simple mind, who has no notion that a world outside of his exists. He tweets a lot and many times ends his messages with "SAD"'. He is right there, because America now is sad. It had enemies before but he has now made many more.

A great tribute to Ronald Reagan. A great rendition of a good hymn by an Irish tenor accompanied by a powerful band. One of my abiding memories here will be just the grace and elegance of Nancy and her family. There is some beauty beyond compare in her poise and dignity in what had to be her saddest moment. And now also we shall remember and pray for you too Nancy. God bless you and Ronald, great people, great Americans.

How perfectly beautiful!! Such a lovely song sung by Dr Ronan Tynan is a blessing for President Reagan's family. I once read that President Reagan requested that Ronan sing at his funeral. And, sing, he did!! This is lovely!!

I am disturbed by the animosity of so many of these posts. Ronald Reagan was President during my High School Years. I am a progressive, yet I voted for him. Have you all forgotten what a frightening and disorienting time the late 70's and early 80's were? I love Jimmy Carter as an Ex President-in fact, I believe he is the model of what a former President should be, but, while in office, he didn't provide strong leadership for a country still reeling from the stain of Richard Nixon. I voted for Reagan, my first vote, and yes, I was terribly young. But whatever you thought of him, you never questioned where he stood on an issue. As years passed, and I witnessed an angry, hateful element take hold of the Republican Party, my views changed. I may have come in later life to strongly disagree with Reagan's domestic policies, but I never doubted the honesty of his beliefs. We always knew what he stood for. Unfortunately, in this bitter age, the age of Rand Paul and Ted Cruz, were Ronald Reagan still living, he would not survive a Republican Primary fight. The Republican Party of Eisenhower, of Rockefeller, of Goldwater who basically told Nixon to stick it is long gone. And that's a sad thing for this country. And don't think for a second that I am any easier on the Democrats. I am disgusted with both parties. Because they lack the courage of their convictions, and it is more important to make a political point than do something for the common good. Shame on all of us.
@docinohio10 жыл бұрын
well written...good insight and assessment....how sad and woeful is our country, politics, society now compared to then!
@johnoconnor462310 жыл бұрын
A good considered post by you Raymond. I am not American, do not live in USA, but love it all the same. If we lose America we lose the defender of modern democracy, modern civilisation. There is much wrong with America, but in a country, a continent of more than 300 million people, it is not too bad. Yes it needs to put control in some "out of control" policemen that do no justice to themselves when they should be even handed in applying laws to all. Worse is the lack of visibility into Grand Juries who appear to have made decisions favouring the establishment, without any visibility into their decision-making. Forty or more years after Martin Luther King's assassination all appears not to have improved much for some downtrodden who might be on the margins of society.

Raymond Shutt Could not say it better than your quote and will repeat your last line "and make gentle the life of this world". Great words and let us hope that more could live by those words, in my favourite country the USA. The best thing is there will be an election for you in a year's time when you can choose some "pre ordainded" person again, one of two chosen ones. Where goes America, with a stagnant congress and senate a powerless president? Into the next election and the American people have seen it and will be good judges again late next year.

I can never remember a bad word from him, all I can ever remember was how proud he was to be American and how he put America on top of his agenda.
