If you ever feel like experimenting, I'd love to see you apply no wipe gel top coat directly to a piece, cure, then buff on a holo pigment to get a smooth rainbow effect. Unconventional, but I imagine it would be cool if it worked

I would agree with you that the paint was a little underwhelming compared to ones expectations looking at the little clip you showed. Its still really pretty, but I can see it only being used as an accent after the painting is basically done. Good work though

I always love how you draw animals, specificly cats! I even commissioned you to draw my cat couple months ago, when you had commissions up to help pay vet bills for Sally. Hope everything went fine! Our cat you drew, sadly passed away in June (of old age), now we have your drawing next to some pictures on the wall as a reminder of her. ♥

I love fall for all the reasons you mentioned, but spring is such a great "rebirth" season, with plants growing and the sun coming back. Because the colors you used were all cool, the mushroom picture looks more "magical winter" to me than fall even though that's what mushrooms usually make people think of!

I think you made the best you could with these supplies. As a paint maker myself I kinda... it sounds like a false advertisement? As you said, it is glitter, not a mica (which is the shimmer paint you talked about, like the gansai tambi). It also gives a bad rep for the paint in general. Handmade paint can be amazing, I tried (and not to toot my own horn but also made) paint better than common brands like W&N. This of course differs per brand, maker, and pigment but to say handmade isn't as good as a big brand simply isn't true. There are a lot of makers out there right now though, so I have to admit it can be hard to find genuine ones. If you are ever looking into more holos, I don't make them myself, but it could be an idea to ask the maker what they use to make those paints. Because in this case, it was glitter. You'd want to get a paint made with mica or just pigment to get the effects you desire!
@AlexaFaie
@AlexaFaie 3 жыл бұрын
You can't get holo mica. Mica only ever does sparkle/shimmer and duo chrome. Holo relies on there being a very exact angle to split the white light into all the colours of the rainbow and how mica is formed (its crystalline growth structure) and how its ground up doesn't produce the correct angles to split the light into the true holo rainbow. Even the very finest of holographic powders is technically produced from glitter. A better solution perhaps would be to coat the art with a resin which you could press those holographic films on to to leave an imprint in the resin which deffracts the light correctly (like what people on youtube used to make the holographic chocolate).
@lilredhead17
@lilredhead17 3 жыл бұрын
@@AlexaFaie you don't grind mica, so theoretically you should be able to get a holo that way. But I don't dabble it that myself so you might be right. I was just saying, this paint isn't true holo, so it shouldn't be marketed as if it was. It should at least state somewhere it is a glitter that doesn't have full coverage

I feel the same way about holographic paint, I started learning how to make paint a few years ago and I tried to make holographic paint, with pretty much the same result that you experienced. Normally for paint you have a pigment that gets ground into the medium but for the holographic particles they just kinda.....get suspended into the medium. I still think it's very cool but i think at this point we just don't have the ability to make a super pigmented holographic watercolor (unless you want to paint with nail polish?) I really like the galaxy girl, she looks so soft and relaxed.

I also prefer fall for motivation. Spring is a close second. I hate summer, but I also live in America where summers are loud, traffic is more loud, and everyone's blasting their lawn mowers... And then there's the bugs. Locusts are bad, cicadas are worse. Good thing they only come around every 17 years... Edit: forgot to mention the fireworks. God, I hate fireworks.

That effect looks a lot like the Crayola pearlescent acrylic paint. What if you let the base color dry, then come along and wash it over? With the opaque acrylic paint, it takes very little coverage to have sparkle that looks similar to just the paint when it dries. I love the girl dreaming.

I have seen the paint maker you've shown in the video and I find their paints in general underwhelming for the prices. Not to sya they aren't good but I have seen some handmade watercolor makers that produce truly stunning paints that are friendlier in cost with proven quality. The thing is many holographic handmade watercolors are actually just glitter and not exactly a pigment like mica pigments are. There IS holographic mica pigment and it is ridiculously expensive. So expensive that the one of the most popular and best rated makers sells theirs for like 27 usd. And the holo mica is not as reflective as glitter can be so yeah it will not look as bright and in your face. And who do you buy it from also affects the quality. There are many great handmade watercolor makers in Europe like Brillanza and in US Iuile and Hydracolour have some of ravest reviews and widest ranges of color. Also, for this kind of paints, it is much better to apply them in thick layers.
