The nice thing about the arc reactor is that it could really work. And it's not because of some "free energy hocus pocus", it is because of the way it's built which reminds me of a fusion reaction. To be more accurate, it reminds me of a tokamak reactor. Which in theory should work (and they are still working on it) Just give them another 30 years and it'll eventually happen

I'm 73 and I wish I would have had the resources you do when I was your age. I love what you do with multiple disciplines. I used to do similar things when I was young, but I was your age back in the early 70's and there wasn't much available in the way of supportive creative tech back then. I did have the good fortune of working for Raychem R&D back in the early '80s and we invented and brought to market many useful items of new tech. We even got in on the creating and operation of the 1st commercially installed LAN. Heat Shrink Tubing was the Companies premier product but one of my projects was a thing called Hot Line, which is still available from other companies now. It's an inline diesel Fuel Heater. We also made the first flat ribbon cable. Fun times then. Enjoy it while you can. Remember this... "Anything that can be done with technology can be undone with technology. Well, the arc reactor is a mini nuclear fusion plant, so it uses the hydrogen in the air as fuel, and pumps out hellium as a by-product. But making the walls transparrent is stupid, the movie put it in for Cool-factor. But the coils around it are electromagnets to keep the plasma from touching the walls. Otherwise they would melt. But another loop hole can be: you turn matter into energy, E=mc², that would easilly give you the 3GW output with very little fuel. Since c² is a very large number.

He's smart enough that he's not dumb, he's moderately educated enough to not be ignorant, experienced enough at building stuff that he's starting to get the hang of it after a few years, and beyond that just decides what he wants to do and then works his ass off to get it done. After re-watching Iron Man, I think Tony Stark made a plasma fusion reactor similar to the Helion reactor, just in a ring. You could make a cool ring of plasma with coils warps around a annular tube filled with xenon or something.

"Therefore, building a real arc reactor is impossible." *clicks off video*
@jadencarollo36024 жыл бұрын
I've been wanting to mess around with these things called "plasma actuators". I think they would produce a similar effect to your arc reactor, albeit without the sound and a more uniform glow. Doubt you'll see this comment, but if you do I highly recommend looking into them! On a somewhat related note: I'm working on a concept for a functional, scaled-down Quinjet. I may use the plasma actuators as a "virtual barrier surface" above and below the wing-mounted vtol fanblades. This would allow air to pass smoothly over them without turbulence.
@EliasMheart4 жыл бұрын
That sounds really interesting. If you are stopping airflow into the fanblades via plasma, how are they going to work? Or is the plasma semi-permeable? I have not yet looked deeply into plasma actuators, just read two articles rn to respond :P

I’ve heard of those. I posed the question to the hypersonic guys I worked with briefly why they didn’t use them. Basically the answer was “too much power.” How much power do you intend on producing/using on board the VTOL craft?
@airman1224693 жыл бұрын
@@EliasMheart Not stopping, redirecting. At least, that’s usually how plasma actuators are used. It’s actually really interesting. Basically the concept is you produce a cushion of plasma that guides the airflow around the surface.

I supposed you could emulate an arc reactor like this much simpler with an automotive ignition coil (12v, probably more compact to use motorcycle style), and having the Arc Reactor copper coils as conductors so the arc bounces from one conductor to the next, then encasing the whole thing. Instead of trying to make individual arcs between the points, which should slim down the whole package.
