**IMPORTANT!** This video shows a radar screen simulation according to Flight Radar 24 data. The simulator is still in progress and some of the data shown may not be correct or in sync with the audio. A lot of work is ahead to improve. I'd like you all to comment how useful you find this radar in order to visualize every traffic around and that also appears in the audio. With this new feature, we know where everyone is so our knowledge of the situation increases. We're still working to get it working perfectly.

To be honest, I prefer the videos that don't have such long pauses between comms. Don't know about others, but time is precious and I would prefer a thousand times videos not being in sync with radar data/real time. EDIT: Just finished watching/hearing the video after fast forwarding too much. I prefer the old style of your videos that trims down the time between comms. Sorry but I feel this is just a waste of time with such long pauses and comms being presented in real time.

Good job by the pilots in returning to the field and making such a tight downwind turn and didn’t complain about smoke from the fires in the LA area which are keeping smoke under 3,500. I was at the viewing spot in Imperial Hwy and it was indeed a bird strike.. a little surprise he didn’t land 24R since it was easier but props regardless
@DjRay19677 жыл бұрын
Kevin Moran I observed this flying very low over my house. I live close to Santa Monica Airport and knew that this plane is not coming in to land there. It flew over here at 1500 ft. and knew this plane was in trouble. When it came over I didn’t see any smoke from the engine so probably he already had put the fire out by then. Thank goodness it made it back successfully. Had no idea till now that it was a bird strike.

@aneng646 жыл бұрын
Having watched quite a few of these, one thing stands out - the controllers can't just shut up and let the crew handle the emergency. They are always calling the aircraft to ask questions that can wait, or offer endless permutations of runways etc. I know they mean well but if you're on the flight deck and you've got alarms going and you're trying to handle the emergency correctly by the checklists, you really don't need someone distracting you every few seconds with non-critical messages. They flight crew will contact ATC at an appropriate moment.

Love the new format! Some suggestions: 1. Make the text bigger. I watched this full screen on a 32" monitor so had very little trouble but usually I watch on mobile and this would of been impossible to read. 2. Highlight the plane that is talking so that you can quickly and easily follow along, this could be as simple as bolding the text of the currently talking plane. 3. As someone else said, it would be really cool if you could have a satellite image superimposed (potentially quite faint but still visible) over/under the radar for better immersion/awareness. This is more of a bonus thing IMO.
@VASAviation7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! In response: 1- We have already added a new setting to make data block text bigger. Available on newer videos. 2- That's a little more complicated with THIS format but it will be implemented in old style videos. The aircraft icon will illuminate. 3- The background image is the same as real ATCs use at their Tracon positions. Adding whatever image would be possible anyway.

Is it procedure to declare an emergency even if it is obvious there is one? I never heard them actually declare one. Also, the videos are better without the long delays, good work either way though.
@bdunderscore7 жыл бұрын
I imagine they were a bit busy at the time running procedures, and since ATC noticed (and started giving them emergency treatment) before they had a chance to call there's not really much of a point declaring. Wouldn't hurt, I suppose, but since the point of declaring is to get priority treatment, if you're already getting that priority treatment it's moot.
@GigsTaggart7 жыл бұрын
bd_ Yeah as soon as they asked what intentions were the pilots knew they had priority and that the tower knew it was an emergency.
@drfaustus727 жыл бұрын
In the US ATC can declare emergency for you. There is no requirement to state it, as in in other countries. The controller hit the red button as soon as he heard the other plane talking about flames. Mind you, LAX has two tower frequencies (North and South), and something like 4 or 6 unique approach and departure frequencies, so there are a lot of people who need to get on the same page quickly. Plus, the plane turned to the right - into the bad engine (SOP) - and came fairly close to Santa Monica Airport at low altitude. So in a case like this, time is of the essence.
@fhuber75076 жыл бұрын
Tower/ATC can in effect declare for them. "We see you are on fire" = the tower already knows he's an emergency. Actually saying it isn't as important as dealing with it. They dealt with it.

I am a fan of the channel, and I am grateful for the effort that you put into it. However, about the new format, I didn't find it visually appealing at all. I guess it can even prevent people who are not involved with aviation from finding the channel interesting since it barely shows any information and isn't much fluid - I'm sure some people had a hard time finding the runways there. A radar screen is ideal for controllers because it's uncluttered and has only the information they need to get their job done, which is not our case here watching it from home. That's just an opinion if one is welcome. The previous format was better, easier to understand, and much more fluid and appealing to the eyes.

What is the meaning of Arnav to docer. I listen to lax tower a lot and they say that to every plane before it’s clear for takeoff.

That is the equivalent to an initial heading assignment you hear for other takeoffs. They are being told to head direct to the RNAV waypoint DOCKR after takeoff. Look up any of the RNAV SIDs for LAX and you'll see it there.

Radar images are fine. If you want to watch this stuff just on your phone or an iPad, that's your choice, but no need to penalise those of us who watch these things properly on a computer with a decent screen size. Also, real time pauses are OK. It adds to the immersion, because that's real life. No need to pander to the "I must have it now, as quickly as possible, because I have an attention span of one minute" crowd of desktop pilots.

For us laymen/armchair warriors, I have to agree with other comments before me that while a nice idea to have the live radar feed, to the untrained and inexperienced it is difficult to comprehent what is being show here (I don't know how to read radar!), especially with the long pauses and irrelevant comms with unrelated aircraft. Cutting out dead-air and irrelevant comms, and time-lapse for those same blank moments would help a lot in trimming the runtime of these videos. Color-coding the radar signals (i.e. the airplanes themselves) to match the text dialogue would also be helpful! The font size of the aircraft is really tiny here, even in HD!
