Well done video. Thank you. I watched the Hulu limited series and read the book subsequently. Was in my 20s in the 1980s. A lifetime ago. It was nice to put flowers on her grave. Betty never had a chance to see her own daughters grow up. So sad.

Awe I love Mrs. Candy❤ I relate to her so much! We have the same lives, I even took an affair a few times but they are over now. Still married and still happy in a way, just taking care of the home daily. I wake up make the breakfast, spend the day cleaning and dusting, dinner is ready by 6. Mrs. Candy, I know she defended herself, she’s such a cute woman! I guess I’ll be watching Hulu’s version (my favorite) first then Max’s version again. I gotta get back to cooking, vacuum, mop, and attend to my animals now that the children have left the nest. Where ever you are Mrs. Candy I hope you are happy and safe ❤

I just can't understand 41 axe wounds on her, even if she was triggered by her shush- ing her, 41 is a lot of anger... absolutely unbelievable that a jury would accept that, if the prosecutor pretended to wave the axe 41 times why would a jury be ok with that, then taking a shower and leaving a baby alone ?? Great tour. I was in high school in Garland at the time. My Mom’s best friend lived a block over from the Gore house. I remember how afraid everyone was initially when they didn’t know yet who’d done it. She brought her daughter & stayed with us until they said it wasn’t a stranger.

@Our80sLife Жыл бұрын
Oh wow! I hadn't even thought of that, but there definitely would've been some time initially when this could have looked like a random break-in crime. I'm sure that had to be scary for the neighbors, yikes!!

If you noticed people living in that area said they were afraid about who committed the crime. Here is the thing, I remembered been very afraid myself when a similar murder happened in my home town in 1975 and I was 11 years old. That is all people talked about and it was shocking. Crimes are no longer a shock and it goes to show that we are living in troubled times. Society is on the verge of a total collapse. Sad indeed.

I saw the HBO miniseries recently. Despite the fact that I grew up in Plano, I had never heard of this story until now. We moved here in the summer of 1980, so I'm sure my parents were aware of it. I recognize many of these locations, including the Como and Continental. I live 5-10 minutes from each of those locations. I can't tell you how many times I have driven past the Como, and the former Continental and wondered "How are these places still in business?". What struck me, being familiar with the area, was how far Candy and Allen drove. I don't know how they managed it. Back then those areas were largely still farm land. I'm really not a fan of fetishizing true crime, but this caught my interest, and thank you for keeping a respectful distance from the houses. I'm wondering what the current owners think, with all of the new publicity the case has received.

Isn't it an unbelievable story?! Growing up in Richardson, I'm sure my parents also knew about it but shielded me from it because of my young age (thanks Mom & Dad!) Like you, I was thinking I've driven past these locations SO many times and had no clue any of these events took place there. And also like you mentioned, we were shocked at how far away these locations were from each other (especially the 2 families' homes!) which was very noticeable as we were having to drive all over town making this video! I am amazed how many different activities Candy took part in after killing her best friend so brutally. That's a sociopathic murderer right there. I wonder if Allan had not admitted to having the illicit affair, would Candy have surrendered? Also, in the old videos/newsreels of the trial that you inserted here, was that Allan (Betty's husband) walking beside Candy or that is someone else?
@Our80sLife
@Our80sLife Жыл бұрын
I know, right?! It's such a wild story! If you read the book, Evidence of Love, there is a very detailed description of Candy's activities for that day. That's the resource we used for the timeline, as well as the description which led us to locate her home (which wasn't publicly available.) And that information came from the writers' interview with Candy herself! As for the video footage surrounding the trial, the man walking near Candy was Robert Udashen who was a member of her legal team.

If you did watch the series, one piece of set-decoration really stood out to me. Candy’s lawyers desk had a display case built into the front and it was full of taxidermy. Is that a thing in Texas? Candy and her famiily moved to Georgia. I only met Candy one time around 1988 or 1989 but I feel like she was a nice and good woman. Candy and Pat were still married at that time. I guess they changed the story a little for TV. Betty had a butcher knife and Candy ran from her and went in to the laundry room and found the axe there. I believe that it WAS self defense.

@DevonaRavenhold
@DevonaRavenhold 8 ай бұрын
I really think that whenever she cheated on her husband that the thought of the sleazier motel was more enticing because she was missing excitement and dirty raw hot sex out of her own life so she wanted all of those aspects which is why she wanted to have an affair to start with because it was the forbidden. I could see the lure in going for the Como motel specifically due to location and just being an hourly place that it would be unlikely to find either one of them at.

I don't get how the jury could find her not guilty. 41 axe blows, she took a bath in the victim 's bathroom, after which she left a crying baby alone. She lied to the police when she was questionned. In fact the fact that she was sleeping with a married man while she was busy showing a respectful face in her community is even a proof that she has a corrupt morality. Even though that is not the point the jury should have known she was not trustworthy, and her claim it was self-defense is a big lie, like her whole life. She has the motives, the mean and she pleaded "guilty". How can they find her nqun guilty?

This story is just unbelievable, I watched the TV film and the two recent series about it and every time I watched I'm thinking why on earth did candy just not get the hell out of the house the second she saw Betty come out with the axe? I mean it's an axe, just leave. Get out. Obviously having an affair is a not a good idea either but why try and be a hero, she was clearly not right. Leave and call the police.

Just out of curiosity, did you guys ever purchase or obtain the court records? I'm wondering how long the actual court case lasted because I could swear that I heard that it took 8 days. I would love to have a copy of those court records, this case absolutely fascinates me. I have a theory about gandy but I know it would not be a popular one here so I'm not going to speak it, all I can say is that a woman's mentality back in the '70s and early '80s was a lot different than today. Upholding image held a lot of weight back then.
