A brilliant lesson that got me to concentrate and to think hard. You use the expression 长的好看 as an alternative to 漂亮。There is another expression that I use similar to your alternative expression: 真的好看。 Is it correct to say that your expression refers specifically to a person's appearance as "looking good" or "beautiful" and is limited to just persons; where my expression can refer not just to people but also to objects, movies, paintings as well?

Good question～ pay attention this“得de” not that “的“ Actually there is a very useful structure here--verb+得+adv+adj--example：起得很早 get up very early 她的中文说得很好。说得很好translate directly is”speak very well“ which mean”her Chinese is very fluent“ so same way”长得好看“ 长 zhǎng is not cháng，长 here basically means one's appearance or DNA--example：他长得很高=他很高 He is tall. So 长得好看 is only for one's appearance like you said--kind of like beautiful but”真的好看“ 真的=really 好看=look good--so 真的好看 can describe many other things which look good--example1--你的发型 fà xíng 真的好看（发型 fà xíng=hair style）Your hair style looks really good. example2--这件T恤xù 真的好看 This T-shirt really looks good. “这个电影也很有意思”。也 is before predicate. and 这个不是电影，是TV series 电视剧 diǎn shì jù I said and wrote the name at the beginning of the video. --玫瑰的故事

Good question～Actually it's OK and kind of the same meaning which means you won't understand（about how complicated the relationship is） trying to use Chinese characters to write will help you recognize more characters（suggestion）你不会理解的=你不会明白míng bai 的

My textbook says that 长 means development, and I thought when someone says 长得好看， it means ‘you’ve become so beautiful’ in a way that they haven’t seen each other for a long time. Kinda you’ve grown into such a beautiful girl. But is it the case? Or I can use it just like 你真漂亮?

长 can also mean appearance, and 长得什么什么， is a common structure to express someones appearance. 你长得很漂亮，you use this structure with adjectives specifically, with a noun u can use 长着 + number + measure word + noun like 他长着一头黑色的直发 which means like he has a head of black straight hair

Plus-- 长 this character has two pronunciation （1）cháng=长 means “long” eg--长头发长城 chéng chéng=the Great Wall （2）zhǎng=长 in this situation we can just divide to two means one-- this 长 means appearance like @faeluvzelda5091 said eg--长得好看/长得很漂亮=beautiful 长着一双大眼睛 zhǎng zhe yì shuāng dà yǎn jīng=with two big eyes（appearance） two--this 长 means development grow or high position eg--你长大了 zhǎng dà le=You‘ve already grew up 弟弟长高了 zhǎng gāo le=means younger brother become taller 机长 jī zhǎng（high position means the capital of plane）船长 chuán zhǎng（capital of ship）校长（capital of school which means principal）

Actually为～活 is a pattern that you can use “我为我的猫活” this structure is OK but the meaning is kind of a little weird. Because 为～～活 means that your living goal and meaning is all for that thing, Eg--很多中国的父母fù mǔ（parents）都是为她们的孩子hái zi （kids）活。 Many Chinese parents are living for their kids.
