Here's a paradox that always messed me up as a kid: clowns aren't real, they're people dressed as clowns, but a clown has to be a real thing for someone to dress as one. Actually clowns developed from the court jesters in medieval times. They adapted the name in 17th century I believe to fit people who made themselves into buffoons on stage during the Elizabethan period of rule in England. Essentially, clowns are modern day jesters. I would rather be a jester than a clown though, much cooler costume. :)
