Your teaching methodology is spot on, very easy to understand and follow, thank you for taking the time. What’s your opinion on HDR v flash + ambient and how do you blend flash and ambient exposures to produce final image?

I am not a fan of HDR but it might help you at the beginning.. Using lights will allow you to get good consistent results 100% of the time. HDR also might be faster to shoot but far longer to get really good final shots especially dealing with achieving true colors

The one I’m currently using is the kind that has what seems like hundreds of clamps on each side and it’s so annoying to deal with lol. I do have question though if you don’t mind. I’m using a Nikon D850 and sometimes when I’m taking ambient shots the color seems totally out of whack, like a room with light brown walls will make the image of the room show a lot of orange tones. No pleasant lol. Anyway, do you have any recommendations as far as what you do with the white balance settings? Or do you just stick with auto white balance? Thanks again Rich! Cheers! :)

Rich....Good vid. A couple points. That tripod is a beast and with mirrorless you hardly need to lug that monster around a home. Save yourself some wear and tear and go with a small RRS or Gitzo tripod. Secondly, your work process seems to be very detailed , which is great. But in today's market, PRICE is a huge factor for the mid-priced home. Your work process seems to be one that would require a good amount of time in each home, and therefore much higher pricing. How do you keep your prices in line, yet do such labor intensive work (moving around light stands/ carrying iPads etc ?? .
@RichBaum5 жыл бұрын
What I use and what I charge just works for me.. My clients require the best "Detailed" work and that's what I give.. and there is so much more to a tripod than just being light and small.. trust me I have 8 tripods with one being a Gitzo traveler ($800) and a RRS Carbon ($1200) and what I prefer for any type of real estate or design work is my Manfrotto 3046 with the geared center column

Also, one can not focus from the iPad or iPhone using the Playmemories app. I'd love to find a solid alternative app... especially one having remote focus, however, from what I've read focus is not an option for app developers because of the way Sony engineered the camera?

@@RichBaum oh man i would have loved to take you to a few high end properties and a desert safari. Next time ill be more forthcoming with my invites. One questions... I know you shoot RAW and WB can be adjusted in post but while you are shooting... What do you set your white balance for during ambient shot and for flash shot? I use a Sony A73 and Venus Optics 12mm Zerp D and a Sony 16-35mm F4.

I almost always shoot in Auto WB and adjust in post..

How do you determine the height of your camera from the ground?
@RichBaum5 жыл бұрын
That's a hard one and there is no one height, but for me I keep it around my belly button for normal shooting but I will say for kitchens I recommend trying not to see the undersides of the cabinets

Love your videos Rich. Not that it matters, but the max sync speed is 1/250th on Sony?
@RichBaum5 жыл бұрын
Sorry but the a7III Max sync speed is 1/160sec.. But with some lights you can get no shutter line up to 1/250 but with my Flashpoint lights it's unfortunately 160sec
@criticaltinker5 жыл бұрын
@@RichBaum I think the max sync speed of the A7iii is 1/250sec and the A6000 is 1/160sec.
@inspiration1515 жыл бұрын
I could benefit from some clarity here, too. I was under the impression that using the A7III along with the latest Flashpoint strobes and High Speed Sync (HSS)... much higher shutter speeds were available? As high as 1/8000? Please edumakate me.

Using the iPad is a brilliant idea, thank you so much for your excellent tutorial. I used to have a TS-E 17mm, but I think maybe the FE12-24mm/f4 can replace it. I mean, I take the shot with the 12mm levelled and I cut off the unwanted parts. This way I'll lose resolution, but the 12mm is lot lighter, less expensive and more versatile than the TSE17mm. What do you think?
@RichBaum5 жыл бұрын
two different lenses.. Personally I will choose a 17mm TS over the 12-24 for this kind of photography every day.
@flyingeye53945 жыл бұрын
If you have a 17mm TS, you can always get the 1.4 extender to use with it. That will make your 17 more like a 24. Its a beautiful thing. And much cheaper than buying a 24TS.

hey Rich. on the window facing shot. I noticed the edited image has the right pane on the window as not having any overexposure or flash reflection in it that was part of the ambient and flash shots. Did you actually take a third shot for a window pull? bc the edit doesn't make sense for that one spot between the two images you took. or is there some trick you use to correct for the reflection from the flash that i haven't seen yet?

Yes I might have done a little more work on my delivered image than I showed in the video, I hope you understand.. but the general idea / concept is there..

Hello Rich as you may remember recently I Moved from HDR to flambiant, The first 5-7 homes I shot with my YN flashes and soon realized I need more power. Got the AD200s from Flashpoint, I see you are using the round head on yours in this video. Should I invest in the round head for RE?
@RichBaum5 жыл бұрын
Personally I don't use it now mainly as the round head is a little wider and longer than the standard head and it doesn't fit as well into my bag to I don't use it.. I don't really think it makes a big difference in power or quality of light. but I could be wrong

Hi Rich I've already asked this question but i still have problem with RAW Files using PlayMemories. I set my Sony A7 for RAW+JPEG. Using PlayMemories on my iPad (like you do) I get only images saved in JPEG format. Without using PlayMemories camera saves 2 images (1 RAW & 1 JPEG). Do I do something wrong? Thank you for your help and great tutorials.
@RichBaum5 жыл бұрын
you need to make sure your JPEG is set to the smallest file size possible.

I always got flare from the ceiling light when using TSE 17mm. How do you avoid those flare?

It can be an issue, if there is glare I would turn off lights for one exposure and mask that in.

Thanks your video, I have learned alot, but I have a question, I am very glad if you can answer me. The question is if I shoot entire house with twilight photography. Do I need to shoot interior first and exterior after that, how to manage time, because sunset time is very short. I don't know the processing for entire house twilight photography such as 20 photos. Thank you very much~~~
@RichBaum5 жыл бұрын
Honestly I nave never done a complete interior twilight shoot.. I don't think it's a good idea as you are likely to loose the twilight on either the interior or exterior. I would schedule both separate to be safe

Hi Rich, congrats on your success and thank you for sharing your experience with me and the world! I stumbled onto your channel here the other day AFTER I completed a small condo shoot for a realtor. The widest lens I own is 24 mm and thus it was tough as I was stitching multiple exposures, you know the drill I am sure.... My question, what do you think about the Venus Optics Laowa 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 FE Zoom Lens for Sony E mount? I have a Sony a73 body which I will be using for this, my new adventure into Real Estate Photography. Another question, do you do consult on how to best start such a business (acquiring clients, acquiring images for portfolio, etc...)? Thanks for any input you may have. Carl

Rich, love your videos, and this one is no exception. I'm a tried and true Canon 6D shooter, but am on the fence to switching to Sony. Currently tethering using the DSLR Controller App, which allows for switching on/off flash through the app, but this does not support Sony cameras. I noticed you manually switch flash through your trigger on camera. I'd rather not touch the camera to trigger on/off flash. Does the Sony Play-Memories App allow for this through the app, or is this function not supported through the Sony platform? Thank you Rich, I appreciate all that you do and have learned a lot from you over the years.

I usually use my ipad to adjust camera but I do touch the on camera trigger to turn off my lights.. but I have a very sturdy tripod which I find helpful
