Great video once again. The extended close up of the dynon was particularly helpful. I'd love to see similar video of this install in a CH-650 or a Vans RV9 to play with calculations on getting dialed in for the best cross-country setting. Thanks!

That's some great numbers. The voice-over was great quality on this video. Good job.

I bet it takes off and climbs amazing with that engine. Cruise speed is more of an airframe design issue than an engine one. Sure, we can force it, but the fuel burn is going to be horrendous. The cruzer is probably a better plane for most people. Congrats. Getting a company like this off the ground and keeping it going longterm is a huge accomplishment.

Has Viking considered expanding their engine lineup with the 2.0T that makes 252hp and 273lbft from the Accord, or the 306hp 295lbft from the Civic Type R? This would be a great alternative to the Lycoming IO-540 260hp engine, and at a fraction of the cost to own, maintain, fly, and rebuild.

Not at this time, we aren't sure the market really deems it and would require a lot more R&D, $ and time.

That engine tweaked and massaged over at some drag racing teams gets over 1000hp! So cut that back to 300 would be interesting to see long term since it would be loafing.

NICE! Love to see this test in a Cruzer with the VIP

Are there any 750 CruZers flying yet with the Viking 150? If not, are any of them close to completion/first flight? I'm super interested to see the performance of a CruZer with a 150!

I guess the prop needs some additional pitch.

I bet the Cruzer version will really be moving out with a 150.

It should. It can do 140 now :)

Was really the coolant running 190 "Celsius" or the instrument was set wrongly? looks the unit is wrong, but the value is correct once 190 is a good value for normal operation in F.

Everything is all good. Just an engine swap with previous parameters and settings in there. Everything was good :)
@P513 жыл бұрын
how much did the CG change? how did you compensate for that?
@eggenfellner3 жыл бұрын
Everything was installed then we did a W&B perfect CG, no compensation front/back.

Can you share the airplanes empty weight with the 150? There is a spreadsheet out on the interwebs where a bunch of zenith builders shared their empty weights. Unfortunately there were only so many people who contributed. I'm very interested in the typical weight of the 750 stol or Cruzer with the 130 vs the 150. Future planning my build, and wondering if I can squeeze the 150 in a CruZer instead of the 130. Thanks!

Hey Matt, this is more dependent on the build the engine. We have them at 798 lbs and we have them at 950 lbs - all standard and flying with accessories, but different builds… most average about 800-820
@eggenfellner2 жыл бұрын
The two 150s we have weigh 850 and 880 all up. (Painted, autopilot, sliding seats etc)
@eggenfellner2 жыл бұрын
We also have a Cruzer in our shop right now that had the Continental in it and it weighs 980 lbs and the two we replaced were hefty as well.

@@eggenfellner Thanks for the quick reply. I understand weight very much depends on the build. I'm just gathering data and comparing based on what I see. Avionics, autopilot, tire size, carpeting, leather vs cloth seats, paint, etc. 800-820 with a Viking 150 is impressively light! I'm very interested in the IO-240 swap you're doing now. Waiting to see how it weighs in when the swap is complete! That's very much the configuration I'd be looking for. 750 CruZer with a single dynon 10" and the tires from the STOL kit.
@mcorrive122 жыл бұрын
Back of the napkin calcs... You weighed the IO-240 to be 320lbs wet. I've seen Jan comment on a forum that the Viking 130 installation weighs about 5lbs less than an O-200 installation (from an zenith weighed before and after the engine swap). I also saw you weigh the O-200 recently and found it to be 229lbs. From my math, swapping the IO-240 for the Viking 130 should have the airplane losing 95lbs (and gaining 5HP)! 🤯 Will tune in for the results 😃👍

I agree that 110 MPH on 150 HP sucks.
@randylavine30032 жыл бұрын
Really? For a STOL think about the climb, getting out of a tight spot, etc. If you want speed, look at another airframe. Get educated!
@eggenfellner2 жыл бұрын
You are clearly unaware of the airframe them. It’s the airframe limitation…that is actually extremely high for its normal 80 mph with other setups.
@LTVoyager2 жыл бұрын
@@eggenfellner I never suggested it was an engine issue.
@eggenfellner2 жыл бұрын
I understand, but for that airframe 110 does not suck. Not everyone wants to go fast, and that is in fact very fast for that airframe. All a matter of preference.
