I have played a 2 month league in a simulator and I found it to be hit or miss. I struggled with the chipping and the putting in the bay. As a 10 handicap on the course I average about 30-31 putts per round and sometimes would be closer to the 40 putt mark on some greens in the simulator. On the course at about 6500 yards (my normal distance), my low round is a 75 and in the bay at Kapalua Plantation course I shot a 74 (par is 73) from 6700 yards. We did have 20' gimmies on so it was probably closer to an 80-82. I found that after the league in the bay, it took a couple months to readjust to playing on grass. It does affect my swing. It's great when you can't get outside during the winter/rainy days but definitely want to play the course if possible. Great vidoe Josh!

20’ gimmes? Damn…

100% agree the simulator is such a great alternative especially in the UK winters are getting longer and longer!

@@PNW_Sportbike_Life The simulator that I was using is very unrealistic for putting so my group choose to mostly ignore that. I don't count it as a true round and more just practice. On a real course, I have broken 80 several times putting every thing out. :) My point was it's a good alternative to practice your swing/game when you are not able to get outside! :)

Another top video. I'm an 18 hcp, and to see you hit a 9 to a 135 par 3 has smacked me in the face. I'd have tried to muscle a 9 as well and come up short. You hear it all the time to club up, do it for a hole or 2, then think I'm Bryson! Out tomorrow for 9 with only one objective, play the back number for all holes.

I'm about 10 shots better on a sim. Perfect lie, I get to choose my exact point I want to aim and 5 foot gimmies. I do find chipping and pitching more challenging on the sim because I have a tough time visualizing the distance on a partial shot. I guess I'm more of a feel player with the short game.

Hey Josh, great video. Would be amazing to document the difference in strokes-gained metrics using an app (Tangent can be used indoors as well as out) and see where the difference is coming from and by how much.
@joshoddy11 ай бұрын
Never heard of that? Is it an app?
@adamyounggolf111 ай бұрын
@@joshoddy yes. Ill be working with them soon. It tracks strokes Gained (which Im sure you've heard of), and will also track the reason for poor shots (such as fat/thin, toe/heel, left/right) - which gives you better data to understand what to work on.

Love the content. What is the point of the small gray strip with white lines?
@stevenscott388111 ай бұрын
Also, can you remove the gimme circle altogether and putt everything out?? You’d be putting it out on course no?

Josh, what is the putter you have in the bag? It seems like it is very consistent.

Great comparison rounds, mate. Next time let that big dog loose on on the real course the same way do in the sim. In the sim you would have definitely tried to drive #4 💪

I don’t think this question was ever for debate, since you technically have the same lie for every shot, but with a simulator it adjusts the shot (launch angle, spin, ball speed, etc) with lies in the rough. You never know how a ball will truly react on the course in real grass, not to mention the types of grass, overseeding, and whatever other variables there may be. A real question would be is it truly harder to play on a pristine pga tour course, or is it harder to play on a municipal course that’s roughly the same yardage. I feel like playing a 7000 yard municipal course in bad shape would be more difficult than a tour course with fairways higher on the stimp than the municipal courses greens, and also the dead grass and unfixed pitch marks, just seems like it would be harder to judge. I’d love to see a video on this, especially with a golfer of your caliber

Lol. The simulator is ridiculous 😂

In a good way?
@blue2456311 ай бұрын
@@joshoddy I don’t think it can be compared with the course. On the course you have to deal with conditions, clubface turning in heavy grass, cold temperatures, trying to balance yourself, a lot of time and energy spent walking between shots, slopes, lies, mud on the ball, proximity of other players, pressure of losing the ball etc. As any decent player knows, real pressure changes everything.

Bro quit hating! You know how much time and money he invest to make a 20min video for us. He also puts out a few videos a week. Go watch something else if you don't like it, or better yet, go practice your own golf game. If you need any swing tips, he has those videos too! For free!
