Megan, I grow succulents and i started out like you did. The problem with that glass vase you have it in, is that it does not allow it to drain. Succulents and cacti require little water, and are used to quick-draining soil. Also, make sure succulents and cacti get plenty of sun, cacti need even more direct sunlight than succulents. Your succulent could have been saved! It looked overwatered and needed more sun. If you want to keep that glass vase, add a thick layer (1/3) of small gravel, and use cactus soil instead of regular gardening soil. Hope that helps! You're awesome and I enjoy your videos!:)

On succulents... The soil can't be wet all the time. Your glass bowl needs holes!!!

+MeganBatoon | Yeah, rocks on the bottom to help it drain, then add soil on top of that. After you re-pot it, don't water immediately - they need to acclimate to the pot. So, water it after a week, and then 1-2 weeks between watering, and not in full summer sun, cause weirdly they will burn up (even though they're desert plants - go figure). Also, try either gloves or kitchen tongs to hold cacti when re-potting. Good luck! :) x

Aw Megan, your succulents are dying because they're in a glass bowl without drainage holes. Succulents are easy to take care of because you don't have to water them as often since they store water in their leaves. Because they don't need frequent waterings, they also don't need excess water pooling up in the bottom of that glass bowl. The excess water rots the roots and that's why your echeveria died. You can use whatever to hold your succulents but making sure they have drainage holes is important, as is quick draining soil. As for the cactus, use newspaper to hold onto the plant without hurting your fingers. Also removing the soil the plant comes in and replacing that with new soil is usually better for the plant as stores tend to use cheap soil. Wait a week for the roots to settle in the new soil and heal from the transplant before watering. Happy plarenting!
