Whoever this bass player is, he's not Pierre Michelot. No matter, it's a great clip and I for one is very grateful to you, The Good Doctor for giving me this pleasure to see Klook in action. Those were the days in Paris!!

You're the greatest, Lucy! Please consider releasing an album of ballads just you and Piano? I'd pre-order ten copies! 😁

The info about Andy Bey at the Kennedy Center's Website indicates that this clip was probably filmed in 1959 during their 15 month tour of Europe. After they got back to the US, their manager, George Wein, wanted to send them on another European tour in the early 1960s but (according to Wein's book) he wasn't able to set it up so they fired him.

Yes, 1959 makes more sense, as they made a studio recording of this track (and three others) on April 5, 1959 for Fontana in Paris, with Klook, Kenny Dorham, Barney Wilen and Paul Rovere (same bassist here), so this is most likely around the same time as the recording date, maybe the evening after :). Klook had also dropped his goatie beard by the early 1960s

The bass player looks like Michel Gaudry. True? jazzrealities Many thanks for this fine clip in excellent quality!
The guy sitting on the left with shades and moustache? Looks similar but I've never seen a photo of a mustachio'd Brel after 1954. This has to be mid 60s.

Awesome! Andy and The Bey Sisters never got their just due in a very racist US music industry.. That's Master Drummer who Diz referred to as The Godfather.. Kenny Clarke!
