Not a Christian, but this series with Rev Chris had restored a level of respect I'd long lost for any organized religion. It's nice to see good people, practicing their faith in a way that seeks to educate, connect, and heal the divides we're all struggling with across the planet today. Regardless of his looks, if he's half as good at his daily job as he manages to present his faith in these videos, he's a great asset to his church and local community as a genuinely decent human. I wish I could say I see people like him where I live.

Agreed. As an atheist, it's difficult to respect and understand anyone's faith - but if religion meant going about how Rev Chris does, then it's not so bad. I constantly wonder if there were people like him around me when I was younger, would I also have become Christian?

Exactly!! I’m a Muslim girl, and I can also feel how much power Rev. Chris gives us as the audience and how he unified all of us regardless of religion, gender, race, etc. Whenever I feel a bit hopeless for humanity, as in us being so spiteful and hateful towards each other, I click on one of his videos and immediately feel better 😁 I hope we can continue to live in peace with each other, sister 💜💜💜

But he is human too. That's the point, priests are fallible too. And at the end of the scene he pulls away and apologises. Exactly what I was thinking with the whole "hot priest" storyline. Of course Andrew Scott is hot and the storyline with the priest is thrilling, but it's such an abuse of power from his position as a priest. Even though I'm not Christian, and nor is the character Fleabag, being a priest gives you a certain power and prestige which non-Christians still recognise

I don't find that. Studies show that people who swear are more open and honest. They release their emotions instead of penting them up. I swear at God all the time. I'll swear just as an intensifier in a sentence, like I would with a friend in conversation (eg "Hey God, life was really xxxxing difficult today") or even at him when I'm angry at him. I'll even say "fxxx off" to him if I'm really mad. I had a picture of myself storming up to God on his throne as a little child, screaming and swearing and pointing my enraged finger at him while telling him "I hate you!" And he just beamed at me with open, welcoming arms, inviting me to cuddle, just thoroughly glad to see me, and not even phased. Ever since then I have taken him at his word, and been straightforwardly myself with him. He's my friend. I treat him like one. I'm swear with my other friends so I swear with God. He accepts you exactly like you are, expletives and all.

Totally agree with him about the “kneel” scene. Never thought it was hot. I thought it was predatory… but definitely made it realistic and made his character flawed rather than a mystical angel. Even the priest acknowledged that love “makes you creepy.” And that fox haunting and hunting him… it’s for a reason. So cute to see a real priest reacting to this!

A lot of what's "hot" is that which has been denied us for long, what we hope for and imagine. Fleabag's priest allows this to grow into hotness as it must feel good to him, too. That is his sin. He knows better than Fleabag knows concerning God and his vows.

I think because he was not thinking about sex or himself. He was not in a position of power because Fleabag is to begin an atheist. They were trying that dynamic as friends. It is her vulnerability that shocked and moved him. Not as a priest but as a man. He was never the one trying to seduce Fleabag, actually the other way around. It would be highly inappropriate if a priest did this with a believer who went there for actual confession. This is not what is happening in that scene.

@@pierinacamarena2507 yeah i kind of agree with that only i wouldn't put it that way the "He was never the one trying to seduce Fleabag, actually the other way around" i mean it's actually... true but at the same time it might come off weird to some people and they interpret it as "victim blaming"(tho i don't think this is a "victim" situation) But yeah Fleabag was really really trying to seduce the priest and he was really really trying to show that that's not what she wants from him or at least that she shouldn't want that from him But he was like her, he was broken too, like many of the characters in the show and at that moment i believe he was already a bit drunk and frustrated with their relationship cause she wanted something and he was trying not to desire the same thing she did from their relationship and then that scene at the caffee happend and i believe that impacted him a lot so in that moment at the church he basically gave in i think it was a mistake on his part too for sure but you know... Fleabag was there in a moment when he was also very vulnerable both of them were vulnerable and they met in the wrong place in the wrong moment and that was just... very bad fro both of them we shouldn't act as if Fleabag is innocent or like the Priest is innocent but you know... like i said both of them were in a very vulnerable moment and that happend, both of them allowed that to happen

@@dandantsm6560 so so true. And in the end Fleabag found someone to actually talk to and connect to and even though they weren't together at end she knew she can have people of her own that's why she reconnected with her sister & her dad. Same, I would like to know what he thinks about that. I'm not even religious, but I understand the priest's posture. Priests spend years of their life studying theology and serving their community for life, so it is not easy to leave that path. A man who has chosen such a path in life wouldn't be truly happy or fulfilled knowing they abandoned their vocation to be in a relationship with someone, even if it's someone they love. And Fleabag wouldn't be happy either knowing she motivated him to leave a profession that made him happy. Edit: not all priests, since there are several cases where they have broken their bows to be with someone, and they seem to be happier living normal lives, but Fleabag's priest seemed to be genuinely happy to be a priest. I don't think he'd wish to abandon his position.

now, after watching it, I wasn't disappointed! But one thing I must say, I was really impressed by the angle Rev Christ brought to the 'kneel'-scene. Just having watched the show for entertainment and having taken the whole priest story arch as an extra bit of 'spice' or whatever it hadn't even occurred to me that, yes, if this was a real priest he'd be grossly misusing his position of trust here, in this very specific moment of the context in a confession that is. Still loving the 'hot priest' character, but i really appreciated this was pointed out, especially cause it's easy to just overlook it when just following the tumultuous emotional life of Fleabag.

In the Priest character's defense, I don't think he's knowingly taking advantage or manipulating her. He's also broken and struggling. I always saw that scene as TWO damaged and vulnerable people turning to each other, and doing something inappropriate as a result. And if I remember correctly, it's the Priest character who eventually recognizes they shouldn't be doing this and ends their relationship.

revelwoodie I am a BIG Fleabag fan. I recognised the same thing. I once read someone talk about the ‘kneel’ scene as less of a power play dynamic, and not a sexually charged decision, but more of a display of the Priest being just as broken as Fleabag is. After he asks her to kneel, Fleabag looks even more vulnerable in front of him than she has before (especially with the sexual connotations of the scene and what we all know about her past), and just when you think he has ulterior motives, he kneels with her. He literally puts himself at her level. I personally didn’t interpret that as an abuse of power, from what we know about the Priest’s character and background, but more of a vulnerable person opening up to another vulnerable person (that he loves) and, as you said, doing something inappropriate as a result. We also do see later on that the Priest is still devoted to God, and how much his actions affected him.

@@Revelwoodie yes, exactly my thoughts. I think people tend to see clergymen as some kind of creatures divorced of human flaws and faults, and this series, I believe, abomg other things, also reminds us that they are still just people, and that imperfections are forgiven when it comes to them, as when it comes to anyone.

It’s exactly what she needed; she no longer has to rely on her friend behind the 4th wall because she doesn’t feel so alone anymore. She felt like she couldn’t show anyone her full self, so only showed us, but she showed it to him and he loved her for it even if it couldn’t work out. He kinda makes me want to become a Christian. The thing about tongue just hits home with me. I have a dad who almost just can't help but saying hurtful stuffs at the worst possible moments. And I happen to be very sensitive to those words and they've been eating me up since I was little. I've learned to shut out hurtful stuffs said by others but with him the wound is still as raw as ever. It's the one constant thing that I have had to endure all my life. Even after many fights and my self-harm and suicide attempts, he just keeps doing it over and over. It's made me bitter. It fills me with anger and hate. Sometimes I catch myself saying those same things he said to myself. Sometimes the only thing that helps is when I hurt myself. I just want this anger and hate out of me and the physical pain distracts me from my own thoughts and feelings. I'm on medication and in therapy but it never really goes away. I hope to get better one day and it'd really help if I have someone like Rev. Chris to confide in. Rev. Chris' words are so true and so wise and I would listen the heaven out of them.

I'm reall sorry to hear you're going through such a hard time, especially that's been going on for so long! It's a really dark place and after a while, this hate and anger towards others or even ourselves tears us apart and we lose our sanity. I'm glad you're already taking action, seeing a therapist, facing the problem instead of ignoring it. This step could've saved many lifes, when people open up and talk to someone about their struggles. I basically can't add much more to what was said in the video, but I want you to know that you are loved, that you are worthy of love and that although it might not seem to get any better anytime soon, life goes on and you'll grow with the challenges you face and you will end up in a better place in life, I promise! And yes, Jesus can be your anchor in the waves, show you what love really is and guide you through hard times. There's nothing better to heal and restore a broken heart than experiencing unconditional love and finding your identity in him and it will proof time and again that it's a firm foundation to build your life on. Bless you :)

You are so strong, and so loved. I am sure that you will find happiness in life; keep going. You have come this far, and you deserve so many good things despite what your brain and others might tell you. You are important, you are precious, you are so deserving of everything that will make you smile in the near future. I know you are existing now, and that this is happening now, but it will get better. The storm will clear, it will get so so much better. You will laugh with a group of people who love you and make you happy, you will be so happy. Keep going, dear. Rev. Chris is such a good influence and I'm so glad you've found him! I always remember someone telling me a story about how she wasn't completely sure if God was real, so she prayed and asked for signs to let her know that He was there. I don't know if being a Christian still interests you, a year later, but I will say this: He has a plan for you. This is so awful what you're going through and what you have gone through, and I am so proud of you for being here. Please try to treat yourself with kindness, drink some water, maybe look up at the moon. I like to do it sometimes, because there's always at least one person looking at it too. You are not alone, you have so much good ahead of you. I am so proud of you. Look at the birds outside, how they chirp and sing to each other! I can recommend finding some sort of source for good things happening in the world, as people don't usually talk about good things happening on the internet, it could be a really nice thing to see! There is a suicide prevention hotline that is done through messaging. You don't have to talk on the phone, instead you can text them. It's called IMAlive, that's IM Alive without the space in the middle. If you search it into google I'm sure it will come up. They are professionals, and they can message you and you can talk to them about whatever you like really, and I think it could help? In case no-one has told you that they love you today, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart: I love you! I care about you! It's going to be okay. I promise. I absolutely promise you. Keep going. You're going to be okay :) 💛💛💛

I had a bad experience with church as a child and it's bin a struggle through my adult life. It is so refreshing to see a priest that practices what he preaches it gives me hope that one day all church's will be a safe place for anyone to go with to me is what a church is supposed to be keep up the good work

I feel like Rev Chris missed important something about the controversial scene. I felt like the point of the scene was to show that just because this man is a priest doesn't mean he's exempt from making mistakes and doing things that might not be the right decision, but he is simply a human who sometimes acts on instinct, and that doesn't always take you the right direction. He mentioned "That's not what a Priest is supposed to do." But well really that's not what anyone is supposed to do. Being a Priest doesn't remove Andrew Scott's character from doing that, that's the point.
@novitabasaria7282
@novitabasaria7282 4 жыл бұрын
I remember he added "...anyone". I understand that scene was meant to show normal human side from a Priest, all Priests have flaws but I also understand why Rev.Chris feels angry and frustated. There have been many false portrayal of pastors and bad news about priests in media or in movies and series. Eventhough we accept Priests have flaws but maybe Rev.Chris does not want the flaws being portrayed like that.

I am just on a massive Rev. Chris binge, watching all the Jolly collabs and I absolutely love this man and his humour. I'm a Christian myself and I love being able to have a laugh with these videos without feeling like the joke is on me. Christians are so often represented as these really strict, serious and often mean people. So someone like Rev. Chris getting popular feels amazing :) like hellooo, some of us (if not most) can have a laugh too

I love how that's photo of Rev. Chris they decided to place on the newspaper. I think it sums up his character: playful even though he has a responsibility that's normally seen as very strict and serious. He's still human and is able to have fun with life. :D

Rev Chris is absolutely the kind of guy you could tell your life story to, and the man wouldn’t even judge you and still find a way to love you despite it all and my gosh, that gives me so much hope. And let’s be honest, priest or not, we all know he would be this genuine regardless, and that is perhaps the most wonderful part of his ministry.

it was so interesting to see Rev Chris on my feed as he was being interviewed on the news -- and I was like "uh oh they found him". The crew has gone mainstream LOL I guess it was only a matter of time. It is very telling of this world that all it takes to make it and be seen is to be socially/conventionally attractive. I was initially drawn into watching Rev. Chris' segments on the channel because he is a very open-minded clergyman, presents things with a modern perspective and understanding of the current times but also makes you think deeply. Unfortunately the newspapers are having a field day with his looks that no one will be listening to anything he says. Just wait until they found out he is a twin and his twin brother is in the army. I can see the headlines now. "Sorry ladies he's taken . BUT WAIT -- he has a TWIN! in the military...time to drop your panties now." I feel for their wives .
