This puts the hashiras to perspective on their choice of weapons in comparison to their body build. Tengen is a rather larger person and can use 2 swords as a swinging flail technique due to his body size and weight. Can't wait to see Gyomei's fight and how he uses his weapon.

the crazier thing is the fact that Tengen has the ability to use his swords in battle at inhuman speeds without his blade twisting in a way hes able to go face down with the blade with every swing its like using nunchucks accept with swords and something of that level is crazy to do since its not like you gotta worry about the blade not going straight with each swing perfectly in line like the nunchuck.

flails were used by knights will chainmail armor for protection. this sword technique looks cool but is impractical. if those were real swords, the dudes hips and waist would be sliced, esp if he lost control or balance. the recoil from other weapons being charged at you will ruin the center balance control the methods 2 and 3. if maybe he wears gear, sure. but to try to imitate anime.. it's like gogo from kill bill

I mean it doesn't look as good as the anime of course. But in the anime it's a master. Which means if someone like in the anime would dedicate a lot of time or their whole life to learn the technics then it's quite possible. For example while spinning for it to come back faster the user can apply a little force opposite to where the sword is while it's still spinning, which makes it rotate faster. So with a lot of practice a user can make tons of like macro movements to make the sword spin a lot faster. The rest of the technics also requires a lot of precision which a master can obviously do. If you've seen what shaolin monks can do then you know this is quite possible.

So I would like to weigh in on this and say that while the motions are possible, the effectiveness is what comes into question. Not having a solid grip on the sword means you won't be able to put nearly as much force into it, and while with a razor sharp blade you hope the edge does most of the work, the second force stops being applied to it that means it will bounce off and your edge alignment will be screwed and not continue into a target. Swords rely on being used as a fulcrum, you lose that when it is on a chain. That is why it makes more sense with weapons like nunchuks or a segmented staff, they are heavier and rounded, more surface area will impact an opponent at once and the entirety of the weapon is the business end. But with a sword you only have so much edge to work with. Only one perfect angle where something is cut. Realistically if you were fighting someone using this kind of technique you could probably easily bulldoze them they second they try to use the chain. Because you know the attack will not have much force and be easy to deflect. Like don't get me wrong it LOOKS cool, but the reason you never say people using this is because it just wouldn't work. At best it would cause small surface cuts. Not to mention the danger to the wielder itself.

this proves 2 things. Uzui's fighting style is possible (when you include his enahnced strenght, speed and reflex stemming from breathing techniques) and the insane amount of skill and confidence he has, no other hashira puts themselves at so much risk with their own weapon

Gyomei does, as well. However, neither of the two have weapons more dangerous than Mitsuri's. Gyomei's is mostly a chain, so if he hits himself, he should be fine. Tengen's weapon is shorter and has better control. Mitsuri is essentially using a bladed whip. The fact that she used one effectively against a ton of wood dragons and lightning storms shows how incredibly powerful she is.

Its nice to see someone do this. Ive been trying to learn how to use his weapon on my own, i have like 10 years of experience in karate, some with weapons. Imo use it like 2 swords, occasionally "throwing" one one of them to make an opening to strike with the other while grabbing the thrown sword as it comes back to me(if that makes sense). Its hard to practice efficiently when the chain keeps comming off.

You should learn to keep an open mind then since you have not come across the wushu/ kung-fu 3 section staff. The only difference is the middle section is made entirely of a chain so the weight distribution feels different. I saw a demonstration a long time ago and tried it myself and it feels so different yet the movement feels familiar. I just started practicing again last year after finishing the season and thanks to this guy's explanation I'm having fun. Karate weapons use more stick, sword, and knife techniques and even then those moves are linear since karate is formed around countering slashes, stabs, and jab movements. So the movement is very different from rotational swing weapons like the nunchucks, 3 section staff, or rope-dart weapons. Try out wushu or kung-fu in the weapon category

Ima tell you guys something. Yes these techniques are kinda hard to learn. But actually it's simple to learn them in steps. In ¼ years of training, every one of you could do the moves, if you really try to. Not saying that he is not skilled or stuff. I just want to tell ya, that even unexperienced people can learn these techniques easily with enough concentration. And you can even eventually create own ones, if you're skilled enough.

I mean realistically no one would be able to align the blade to cut things when someone is flinging it around but im assuming no one would have the guts to try and be hit with the blunt end of a metal blade. Blade alignment aside this was a great showcasing of skill! It’s cool to see that this is a weapon with realistic features. I always assumed the chains connecting the swords together, was like nunchaku so you can trade hands and have more freedom of motion. I'm really glad you pointed out how these chains can also be used like a 9 section whip to surprise an enemy with a long ranged attack. It makes a lot of sense to use the chains like a whip to get more range. It's like Niten ichi ryu, nunchaku, and a 9 section whip all put together. It's very fitting for a Shinobi I suppose.

Actually the chained sword is more like a three section staff but you have more distance to play with. It’s also a nunchuck system too. Uzui was originally trained in ninjitsu and skilled in ninja combat styles. He actually uses the blades more like kusamigara if you compare the styles mixed with some strength and nunchuck fighting. He spreads those bombs everywhere to gas the area with Wisteria poison which barely affects humans but is absolutely toxic to demons. Uzui is a lot of different things rolled into one but can be blinded by the fight when he gets worked up.
