Alright, I’m Thai and I’ll explain everything you need to know about the paint and why is it so famous in Thailand. About 200 hundred years ago there were many sovereign states ruling the area called “Suwannabhum”. Among them all “Siam” located in central Thailand was the biggest and the most powerful. In the northern part above Siam there were also plenty sovereign states ruling in the area and the most famous one is probably “Lanna” centraled in Chiangmai. Though Lanna occupied the majority part of the present northern Thailand but not every province in northern Thailand belongs to Lanna and “Nan” is the case. Nan is a tiny independent state having their own monarch seperated from both Siam and Lanna But being located near Lanna borders so the culture is almost similar to those from Chiangmai or any other Lanna’s cities. Before the arrival of western powers the main rival fighting in this region were “Siam” and “Burma”(Myanmar). Lanna and every other little states were quite inferior to these two thus both Siam and Burma will always took their chance to laid a colony in this northern area. You’ll see many mixed culture in the area since both Siam and Burma often switch their turns to rule over the region.(This switching event took around 400 years and the latest side to rule them was just Siam thats why today’s Lanna territory is a part of present Thailand). Actually there are many temples in northern Thailand being built by the burmes and are still open to visit right now in the present. This paint though painted by a “Nan” resident but the couple in the picture are actually “Burmese”. They’re called ปู่ม่าน(Pu maan) and ย่าม่าน(Ya maan). The word ม่าน(maan) in old Lanna language means “Burmese”. Why its famous is because the whispering text was composed into a very fine Thai poem. The internal rhyme and the meaning is magnificent when read in Thai(Actually its in old Lanna dialect). The orignal Lanna text are written as “ Kham hak nong koo pee chak ao wai nai nam kor klua nao... chak ao wai phen akad klang hao kor klua mhok moei zon dai long ma ka lum... Jak ao pai sai wang kuang khum kor klua chao pa sai laew loo ao pai... Kor loei ao wai nai oak nai hai tua pee nee jak hua mun hai ahi ahi... Yum pee onsa doong tuen way wa. To be honest other Thais living outside of the northern part of the country will only understand 50% of what its said because its written in a very thick Lanna dialect. Imagine a southern Brit reading an old scottish inscription... However I’ve read the translated standard Thai version before and its all about a guy who couldnt think of where he’ll kept his love in. He couldnt kept it in the water because its gonna be too cold. He couldnt put it in the sky because the clouds will fade it. He couldnt put in the palace because the king will steal it from him. So in the end he chose to put it in his heart... Haha it sounds weird but its abit better when read in Thai if u know what I mean. There’s a languange barrier haha.

I love to hear the optimistic point of views from people who are actually travelling to any other places rather than Pattaya or Phuket. The real Thailand isn't Bangkok, Pattaya, Koh Samui or Phuket. I also realize the fact that Thailand is not the best tourist destinations at all costs but you can find the best out of Thailand if you like. You don't need to be a rich Farang to live happily in Thailand.

Nan will be more stunning if you go there in rainny season (around June-September). You will see the green rice fields along with the green mountains. One of the peaceful places in Thailand.

People are not wrong Mickey thats an impressive view from up there! Great start to an epic vid tour of Nan i loved it there when I visited. Some truly wonderful locations. I really really wanted a cup of that Nan local coffee on my Sunday morning 😝 if only you could reach into the TV huh 555 Fellow biker always look out for each other 👍 Beautiful inside the temple that mural looked very old also, amazing colours! 2nd time lucky on the food! Sometimes you have to hunt around for the best places hey... The ladies behind you in the 2nd restaurant looked very smart in their traditional clothes. Some great footage of the temple beuatiful & very good quality. I can remember riding throigh those hills its stunning there and so much fun on the bike! Nice walkabout near the rvier it was teaming with fish! ...and what an awesome sunset. Such great food over there good pitstop before the trip to your hotel. Love whispering in Nan is a well known among tourists and people. This sentence was inspired by wall painting at Phumin temple in Nan. it is painting of couple named Puu man and Yaa man while Puu man is whispering to Yaa man. The message that he was talking is; I cannot leave my love to you with river because I am afraid that my love will be cold. I cannot leave my love to you with the sky because I am afraid that cloud will cover my love. I cannot leave my love to you at the palace because I am afraid that royalty will take my love. So I will keep my love to you in my heart and let it lament to you even when I sleep or wake up. Visit Nan, and do not forget to whisper" LOVE" to your beloved ones.😍

Hey there!, Unforgettable Nan with beautiful Temples,.I can’t get enough of the magnificent nature surroundings. You’ll get to try all different favours of Khao Soi before you get to ChiangMai everyone seem to added their own twist into the dish themselves nevertheless very enjoyable though. The famous wall painting is "whispering love to the world" or Local people call “Grandfather and grandmother. Thai people believe that if couple desire to have love, stability and live long can pray in front of picture then couple need to whisper to lover in front of “grandfather and grandmother “ Amazing sunset 🌅. The best koi soi is in chìang mai opposite the chiang peak gate .there is a temple and by the side there are a few tables.thèy only serve between 10 to two . You may have to wait a while its packed. Enjoy! Alan
