One of the best all around guards of all time at his peak. 50 point games, 20 assist games, triple doubles, 10-15 double doubles in a row, 13 straight games over 11+ assists, back to back triple doubles, 9 steal games, 5 block games, two facials over 7 footers in the same half( first round 2018 game 3. Epic) come from behind series saving game winning 3s, taking over entire quarters, taking over 4th qtrs. He did it all. Even to those who said he “can’t shoot” just look at these game highlights. How many times did we note he made 5-10 jumpers in a game? A dozen? And this is just one season. Dude was an inconsistent jump shooter, but like all superstars, when he was hot, he was insanely accurate as a shooter. Without all of the knee injuries and the bone spurs he could have ended his career as a top 10 point guard ever. I’d argue that even if he not got any better than 2016/17, if he just maintained that level of play through his early 30s, he would easily be a hall of famer. As it is I think he deserves a better look than some might say. The basketball hall of fame includes international play AS WELL as college and high school. I feel like it would be unfair to the history of basketball to not enshrine the guy who basically made mixtapes what they are today, as well as being the face of the 10+ year Calipadi Kentucky one and done phenomenon, being one of the most famous college bball players ever, even more popular than many nba all stars at the time having his own dance that was permeating all the way through the mainstream media and to movie stars and college girls and little kids. That doesn’t even include all of the things he did in the NBA. Most assists in his first 9 games. 3rd fastest to 10k and 5k dimes. Wizards all time leader in assists and steals. Led wizards to 3 best seasons since 79. Broke Jordan’s record of consecutive 20 point 7 assist playoff games. Only player in NBa history with career averages of at least 18 points 8 assists 1.5 steals and 0.5 blocks( 18.7 8.9 1.7 and 0.7) and only player in playoff history with his averages, 21.8 9.8 assists 1.7 steals and 1.1 BLOCKs. Across 37 playoff games through age 27!! He’s ALSO the All time leader in blocked shots for all point guards ever. He played 600 games, #2 that he passed played 1300. He played about half as many games as the rest of the top 10. He also did things in the playoffs we haven’t seen before. Only player ever to average at least 27 points and 10 assists across more than 7 games. He did it for 13! He had a 42 point 8 assist road closeout game in Atlanta . Only Jordan and LeBron had done that prior to Wall. Had back to back playoff games over 27 points 14 assists 6 rebounds and 4 steals . Only player ever. Also had the first playoff game ever of at least 40 points 13 assists 3 blocks and 3 steals. Dude is a legend.

The ECSF series between Boston and Washington that season was one of my favorite playoff series since 2010. IT4 and John Wall going at it was fun to watch. In game two, they combined for 93 points (Thomas - 53, Wall - 40) and each shot 50% or greater. Wall also had 13 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks. Boston won 129-119. Awesome performances.

This isn’t a bad take but he had some competition. You had IT who was 5th in mvp votes averaging 29 a game and then you had kyrie who was averaging a very efficient 25 next to lebron and then you even have someone like Kemba but I don’t think he was as good as the other names I listed. The convo would be between wall, kyrie, and IT in the eastern conference.
