Thanks for the info. New stackers/collectors need to know the basics for testing silver coins. Scales, neodymium magnet, visual & ping test is sufficient. The bullion test "Ping" apps out there for any smartphone cost very little. They use sound harmonics from a database and are extremely accurate. Far cheaper than expensive electrical testers that have been fooled by thick enough plating !

@darkstranger1970 for giggles purposes I must get one of those ping testers. I have to admit I have NEVER been a fan. However I am not saying that they are not another tool someone should have. I will start looking to buy one

@@AceBullion They are legit science based and use similar tech to musical instrument tuning. I have been using one for years, it never fails and there's no "Sorcery" involved 😂

@darkstranger1970 🤣🤣 Never said it was but I have been doing this long before the ping test app existed. So naturally have been sceptical. 🍺🍺

@@AceBullion Skeptical is good. I'm not here to promote any particular app, just to say that they "were" under a fiver. They can only be used on 1 Oz silver coins & several gold coins including a full sovereign. No good whatsoever for bars, but for coins ideal.

@darkstranger1970 👍👍👍 well I am going on the lookout and will buy one. If it has any use I will show it off as another tool.

Oh my! Why did you jump to the only way to tell is cut them up? Dude! When they are exact weight you just have to measure them (diameter & thickness). If one is not silver it WILL be thicker or thinner. Still not sure? Check specific gravity. Just as easy to do a ping test with freq analysis. No need to cut them up until you are sure. BTW you do have a nice collection of fakes. That is the real takeaway right? Test EVERYTHING...
@AceBullion2 ай бұрын
You make a valid point Mr.Kiwi. Behind the scenes before shooting this video everything was tested using everything but a ping test. But there was still that lingering feeling that this was just not right. So the decision was made to destroy this and use it as melting silver or as another tool if found to be fake. I had examined this under a microscope and couldn't see any signs of cleaning or cleaning agents apart from the ones that were used that would dissolve silver. So still having doubts on this and not wanting to add it to my personal collection regardless I was already prepared to using it as scrap. Never hurts having that as I make lots of items for customers and need to ensure it is pure silver before I go ahead and melt it.. Failing a assay at the Edinburgh assay office puts a mark on your file. Not something I want either. I don't have the ping test machine/tool. And I am planning on buying one for the sake of it. But with strong doubts and the silver meaning nothing more than melt value cutting it open was my easiest way to test it. I felt confident it was real but I just wanted that final proof by chopping it in half for the above reasons. As for the fakes, i have been surprised on how good the fakes have been .. some are horrible meaning so dang accurate it has fooled dealers local to me. I would never sell them to them but I have had offers after they seen them... with them believing it was genuine. I did that as an experiment and told them they were fake... Since then I have made great friends with a few dealers near me who melt down bullion and if they find any fakes they send them to me.

There is a lot of misinformation out there peoples ! Learn your hobby/business and use every proven tool available to verify your bullion. Once you have this knowledge you will rarely go wrong. I like this channel but cutting your coins in half to examine them is completely unnecessary with the tools available in 2024. Keep stacking ! (Silver & Gold if you can) 😊

The cutting of this coin was always on the cards. Eholst it passed so many other tests it still had a wife of unknown Like why was the mirror finish so different and the matt area why was that like it. Plenty of other tests went on behind the scenes. And this as mentioned was always going to be cut up for my scrap. I don't apologise for cutting a coin for remelting Thank you for your comment but there are and have been a few fakes that passed modern machines and tech. The fakers are becoming much better. So once in a while it's good practice to double check your habits znd ir stack.
