I've wanted a Shiro for a long time. I recently bought a copy knife made by Kanediia and while I still want one, it's at least 90%-95% to a Shiro for now. The fit and finish it the best I've seen on a sub $300 knife. Grind is thin and perfect on a m390 blade. Action is smooth and falls slowly by itself without any wiggle needed. The internal milling and balance make it feel like it weights nothing in hand even though it's a 4.5 ounce knife. I'm also happy that it doesn't have any fake Shiro marking on it. I usually don't support clones (especially ones that copy everything) and only bought 3 to see if I'd want to buy the real version. For one of them, the clone was enough to know I wouldn't like the real one. For a sebenza and now this Shiro, it made me realize I need to get one. I got a sebenza a few years ago and it was much nicer. I'll still buy a Shiro, but I just don't know how much nicer it'll be outside of materials (though m390 blade and perfectly heavily milled marble carbon fiber is tough to beat) and small touches here and there. I'll probably pick up a different model.

I really like Real Steel. Got the Avangard (supposed to be m390 at 62-64hrc) and the action is amazing, 80-85% close to Andre Thorburn. And their Huginn is an awesome crossbar lock knife.

I picked one of these up when you did your first impressions and I love it. As you said, it's a ton of blade in a compact package (as DCA would say, a "big easy" knife). The milling adds meaningful grip, and it's one of the sharpest factory edges I've ever gotten (up there with Spyderco and Kunwu).

I like this knife, I got the one with micarta inlays, and it's really nice. came really sharp, solid lockup, no issues so far.

I really wish companies that are going to offer both a premium and a “budget” version would allow us to customize them. I like the look of this knife but I would prefer that blade steel with the look of the less expensive scales. Titanium doesn’t look that great to me. I think these companies would sell a lot more knives if they allowed a “knife builder” option. Thanks as always for the review, MC.

The Real Steel Braginets knives have really flown under the radar. I bought a Lynx in titanium and carbon fiber 5 years ago (now discontinued) and damn, I will never understand how we, as a community, let that go.

Like that one a lot. The Micarta version doesn’t have that nice milling (maybe it’s not really possible on that material). WMK has a cool one with copper fat carbon inlays.

I'd buy that only thing is logo on the blade..ugh it would bug me enough id remove it. Thumbstud or hole or disk would be nice as well.170 is awesome price for this

What is "double clutch"? I hear you and others say it but I don't get what it means.

It's when the framelock is released and the blade falls but catches the detent ball too late, effectively creating a "bounce back" situation that makes it less convenient to close one handed. On a good design, the detent ball is already up on the blade face by the time the blade drops to around 90 degrees. There are some variables but that's the general idea

Is there a modern folder with a blade that has opinel blade geometry?

A Petrified fish 719 is a nice budget option (it's 12c27 like opinel) and Ruike 865 gives you 14c28n. Both are pretty thin already, but do a regrind and it's as close to a modern Opinel that you'll get. If you want better steel, Spyderco chaparral is close, so is Maxace Beetle. Both have 2mm thick stock and FFG. Not as thin as an opinel, but close (you can do a regrind to make it match). The Mr. Mr designs knives are close too, 2-2.4mm stock and ok bte thickness. TRM Atom is great, but has a pretty thick bevel and Tactile has some nice choices (my maverik is around 10 thou bte). Honestly it's rare to find a production knife ground under 2.5mm or 0.010" bte from factory. l got a Divo Nip and it was 8 thou which was a pleasant surprise. Manly has some and a rare Civivi can hit that once in a while. You really need a regrind, reblade (just got a Benchmade AFCK in Magnacut that's 7-8 thou) or a custom knife to see that kind of geometry.
