Hey Matthew, This is really good information that needs to be out there in the straight-forward manner in which you presented it. Great job!

as someone who used to help run a school gallery and group shows, i definitely agree that vanity galleries are a scam. they are incredibly expensive, they demand you market your own work, and take a huge cut of sales. they also take the lesser form of "art event" llcs that run pay-to-participate events and don't do much for artists. one way artists can ensure that various art services are legit is by looking at show history and asking participating artists about the experience.

Thank you for your video. I joined this vanity gallery group exhibition where they promises that big rich people will come . But it’s all bla bla. Only one person really bought an artwork . And She also bought one from me and needs to be handed over .

Thank you. Wish I would have seen this a few months ago. What’s your opinion on the pay $2-5,000 for a booth at indoor shows like Art Basel or Art San Diego?
@matthewlangleyartblogАй бұрын
paying for a booth at an art fair is very different than a vanity gallery - unless the booth is with a vanity gallery, then it's worse. If the gallery is having you pay for the booth and then they take 50% sales commission AND rental - that a hard pass from me. on the other hand if I pay for the space and work the booth with no commission, I could live with that, but there are very few artists that will work a booth at an art fair - it's hard work and you need a really thick skin. Also be very aware that when people say. "Art Basel" they don't mean that particular fair - but a very lessor fair that is going on at the same time of which there are some good fairs and a number of bad fairs that are not worth your time (I'm assuming you mean Art Basel Miami Beach). Always do the research on the fair...

All galleries are a vanity project it's only in degrees.

that is one way of looking at it. Not one I agree with however. I do appreciate your comment though.
