Fun fact this song was a demo presented to Michael that Janet made with her producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Michael added his verses and ad-libs. And he does have his activist songs. Man in the Mirror, Black or White, They Don't Care About Us, Cry, Heal the World, Lost Children. Well, the last one isn't really an activism song... but it feels like one. Hell, even Beat It and Bad were activism songs in a way. But it was more centered around violence and what it meant to be a man.
