I’ve been going to nail salons for years and they get more expensive every time and my money is getting slimmer and slimmer. I’ve been talking to friends and relatives and they all say that it is so easy to do your own but I kept coming up with reasons not to try it out. I went and had my daughter do mine the other day and after watching her plus watching all the salon people do it I finally convinced my self to try it out, so I ordered my first small kit this morning and decided to start watching some KZbin tutorials. This video was real helpful and informative, this is the length and everything about how I wear my nails. Thank you so much for helping me to step out of my comfort zone. Love the colors and the video. You have a new subscriber.

My question for a future video is: how do you keep the cuticle and side walls from lifting and cracking after a week? I literally rough up those parts of my nail, I use a dehydrater and prep, I use an orange stick to remove any excess glue/dip powder! I seal the edges with my efile in a skinny bit, but no matter what MY EDGES LIFT AFTER 1 WEEK! so I'm dipping every dang week!

I believe in updating process vids because we learn with experience and adjust, so I think these updates are important 💜 I use gel top over dip, and always clean my filing dust off with an alcohol wipe so I'm thinking that also dehydrates. I use gel base first, then top and I've never had an issue with my top peeling off. I wouldn't have made the connection to the alcohol wipe acting as a primer, thanks for that!

Marla, you mentioned that you have peel base on your nails. Are you also wearing builder under that or are you just using peel on your natural nails? I love doing my own nails, just dislike all the time needed with builder and extra work, especially now that I am back in the office 4x a week. I recently went back to the salon to my long time manicurist but am hesitant to go back for a fill. I have so much product at home and really feel bad not using it. Almost forgot, Marla, what is your removal process when you use a gel top coat?

For this manicure, it was just my natural nail but I’ve definitely done peel base over builder plenty! You can go either way - whatever your comfort level is! I have a removal video coming with gel top but until then.. file off all the gel top coat and then soak off as usual! That’s it! ❤️

Like a couple of days. I've tried a couple of different brands, and it seems to do it with all of them. I like the ease of the gel top coat but very frustrating when mani is white based, and then in 2 days, it looks grungy! Ugh! Help pls!

Yeah it’s all bout the feel. The higher grit side will always be softer. Some gel top coats can definitely yellow. Usually it’s because of sun exposure or some sort of chemical like lotions, cleaners, etc.

How do you keep them thin? I have issues with them looking super bulky towards the cuticle area. Also, I have issues with my top coats turning matte in areas. Thank you!
@MarlaKris2 жыл бұрын
For I like to contour the nails with the file. That gives my a custom look and less bulk where I don’t want it. As far as top coat.. are you using dip top or gel top?
@jennifermedina7752 жыл бұрын
@@MarlaKris I am using dip top. And I notice I feel congested or so after. Maybe it affects me how you said it affects you?

Hi what's the clear polish that you used in-between the powder

That’s dip base coat. It bonds with the acrylic powder to make a strong nail overlay ❤️

I am not sure but when I use revel my nails always crack??? I do two dips
@MarlaKris2 жыл бұрын
2 dips may not be enough strength on your nails. Mine are super short and have a natural apex. If you have more length of flatter nails, try a 3/4 dip to start or a 3rd full dip 💞

How long do your dip nails usually last?
@MarlaKris2 жыл бұрын
Totally depends on your nails, the prep you do, and your lifestyle but for me, I can keep these on for about 3 weeks before I have a little lifting 💞

Why not buff nails with gel top coat??
@MarlaKris2 жыл бұрын
Gel likes to hold on to a tacky or textured surface, so when you buff and the nails are super smooth, the gel likely will peel right off
@cindyandrews31852 жыл бұрын
@@MarlaKris interesting, I have not had that experience. I too prefer gel top coat, sooo shiny. I may not buff enough 😅

I know this is against popular opinion on this channel but I can’t stand Dip nails. I tried and tried and tried to make them work for me and the only way I could get them to last was to use builder gel first. So then it was taking two hours to remove and re-do a manicure. I wish you did more gel honestly, Because dip is not for me. My issues were cracking and chipping or they were too thick and not the look I like. I wanted them to look like this mani you did today but if I did what you did they chip within 1-2 days.
@MarlaKris2 жыл бұрын
Actually really glad you said this bc I want to do more gel toooooo! Def check out the next upload bc it’s all about chipping and cracking BUT lmk what kind of gel videos you’re interested in! Like polish, nail art, builder etc.
@bonniemckee93892 жыл бұрын
I do have another question… one thing i didn’t try to avoid cracking and chipping was the gel liquids with dip powder. Do you know if that might make a difference? Is it any faster? Yes, gel art on short nails. I also have some blooming gel that I’m a little at a loss for how to get cool looks with.
