Thank you SOOOO much Pixar for your AMAZING open source contributions!

My favorite thing about this video is that we have an HD video of Presto, so you can see how similar and different it is to other 3D products on the market. Yes I know, 3D is 3D, but it really just shows how even if Pixar uses this custom software, it's still LARGELY similar to Blender, 3DS Max, and Maya. Doesn't matter the software you use, just the artist behind it :D

And the compute power that enables complete freedom for the artist expression, that is the real key point.

But also the awesomeness of in-house software for collaborative workflows, and project specific tools❤️

I would love the animation rig controls that's like Presto in Blender, though. The fact they don't need NURBS and can control the bones by clicking on the mesh is really appealing to me! I know people have figured out how as there's subscription commercial products such as "Rumba" - but no one has figured out how to implement it in Blender which kinda sucks... 😅

@@CrystallisedEntertainment agreed, it’s more of a technical demo and a technical research paper than it is a tool for the public right now. Look up “Articulation through Profile Curves” and you’ll find a breakdown of their recent Turning Red rig of the main red panda and you’ll see kindaaa how it’s set up. Also, for Blender, the company that makes it release films to entertain but also as a way to update the software by using it for actual productions, and recently they had a video called Sprite Fright, which they were trying to emulate these curve deformers for more smooth and cartoony rigs as opposed to simply JUST using bone rigs. You may like checking those out 😊

pretty amazing that it's capable of such fast 60fps scrubbable rendering with all that motion and shading of the meshes going on but you gotta think they've been working on that exact software problem since 1995 where they had to make a feature length film using comparably extremely slow workstations.
