Thank you again! The three videos were a huge help. Most stone setting vids seem to use a lot of expensive tools such as hammer heads for the Foredom for the pushing etc. It's good to see it done without the need for expensive accessories. Looking forward to your future videos.

Thank you Gillian! I’m a big fan of doing things by “hand” versus buying the expensive tools. I think of all the jewelers in Africa and India that do amazing work with such simple tools and it motivates me to keep upping my own hand skills!

These were helpful videos. I hate math, so I’m going to have to push past that, and start using your formulas. Thanks so much for all of your helpful tips. I have a shield shaped Tanzanite that I probably need to put in a setting like this, since it’s a fragile stone. I’m afraid I will break it, so guess I’ll need to practice awhile.

I was always the type to just “wing” it until I realized how much material I was wasting… especially as the price of silver was on the rise. Plus, I thought about when and if I’d ever move “up” to gold - I’d need to be extra careful of my materials.

Is that bezel metal reticulated? I've never seen such a rough bezel. Perhaps it's part of your "rustic" vibe? What a sparkler, though!! Enjoyed the math!! Thanks, Julessa. Hope you come back to KZbin. 😊

Hello Flyingcheff! Yes, it is a reticulated piece of sterling - not an actual reticulation piece of silver. I’m definitely coming back now that the studio has a permanent home. Keep an eye out in 2025.

Thank you Julessa, have just come across your tutorials and like others found it very helpful seeing the work done with mostly hand tools. That said, I'm hoping to move up from my wooden ring holder pressed against the bench! Which ring holding system do you use? Thanks again Janet 🙂
@JulessaScofieldMetalsmith Жыл бұрын
Hello Janet! Thank you so much for the kind words. I used a wooden ring holder for YEARS. I didn't upgrade until I took a jewelry stone setting and engraving course at the GRS Training Center in Kansas a few years back. So, I use the GRS Stone Setters kit for my set up. It has been a game changer for me, but was pretty pricey. Once I decided to buy it, it changed the way I work at my bench dramatically. I'm happy I spent the money. For the most part, I try to stay with hand tools because I get a lot more enjoyment out of doing things by hand, but this actually freed my hands up and made my work so much better and the process even more enjoyable.

Hi Yvonne! I’m using a GRS QC 42 size graver with a 15 degree cutting edge. I use this for all of my cleanup around stone settings.
