This is a two edged sword. For people with capital investment of over 25 lks, hedging and come out winning of the wrong trades is possible. But where capital is limited, SL saves the day and provides retailers with opportunity to stay in the game and learn the business.

Today onwards I didn't see P R Sundar Videos, Because He diverts the traders mindset with Stoploss Concept, When People Will follow This video scenario They will Definitely Loose Huge Money without Stop loss.... At The end of the video Pr Sundar told that market will fall down and hits stop Loss after 4 days it will reach highest point, so, I agree with that point but it happens only rare times, most of the times it falls very very loss then stop Loss Will saves us to reduce our losses. Finally My Suggestion is Stop Loss Will Give More Confidence to a Trader Or Investor.... Thank u....

I like your simplicity.. Thank you PR SUNDER
@sathyankvattekkad8903 жыл бұрын
I value Mr Sunder's comments a lot. A preconceived stop loss may be a negative motivation. At the same time one should know when to exit from a loss making share. My first ever experience in trading, distinct from investment, with just 100k capital, taught that. During the first year, I made a profit of 27k but accumulated a loss of 30k in just 4 shares, each one about an average of 15%. Had I exited those shares at about a loss of 5%, I would have been left with a net profit of, 17k, instead of a net loss of 3k. So my approach is exit share at 5% loss. Take care of your losses, and have a reasonable expectation of return from those making profits.

@@goodbro5577 great. Pre committing entry/exit price is excellent. Simply wait until price reaches our preferred range to buy/accumulate. Range bound stocks are good in this case. One of my friends started accumulating Tata Motors from 300 with a plan to add more at 250 and 200. But it came down to below 100 levels. SL is useful for small retails. If one has money power, can take advantage of price drop and bring down average cost. Or write covered calls to bring down cost price. Professional traders like PRS have hedged positions. In spite of being bullish, write calls also.i.e Bajaj Finance. Making profits is not easy. Should have well defined strategy especially when it goes against us.

Sir is correct. Stop loss is very necessary for intra day traders as it may be their bread and butter. However, for people who know how to hold long, stop loss is not an issue. Agree with all points except Stop loss. 🙏 1) Restaurant owner deciding to switch from idli to chappati - itself is his medium term trade on idli going wrong and SL getting hit. 2) Each client in his restaurant could be considered an ultra short term trade. There's a risk of the customer not paying - but the risk is so small compared to overall business and there's no need to put an SL. 3) Black swan events like fire, theft, could ruin his business - and he hedges using insurance - Insurance is not exactly stop loss but the intention to "stop loss" is very much evident here 4) Many successful short term / ultra short term hedge funds use SL.

I don't agree if any one says, one particular tool is absolutely great or absolutely useless. It all depends on how you are going to use that tool with your smartness. Everything is subjective. It offers so much security in worst situations. I would always use Stop Loss/Trailing Stop Limit instead of sell order. I always benefitted with this great tool without getting heavy losses. Every one's perception is different depends on their trading philosophy.

According to me, stoploss is not required on fundamentally strong stocks. It is essential in high risky, smallcap and less fundamentally strong stocks only. However for intraday, there are lots of strategies so totally depends on strategy whether stoploss is required or not. In some strategies , stoploss is not needed for intraday. Like this if agreed 👍

Stop Loss is must for traders who have their positions unhedged. PERIOD. But experienced traders like PRS go for straddles and keep moving their strikes. They mitigate(say firefight) when they are wrong with their money power. Small retails neither have money power nor the knowledge nor the strategy. And hence having SL is safe. One thing we miss out is, reentering into the previously held positions.

SL actually means that one wakes up to reality that stock is going down and if so then surely there has to be a reason why it is going down. SL makes one come out of emotions of hope and optimism and tells somebody in a hard way that save ur chips for today, come and play tommorow. SL being hit becomes a problem when overall index is going down not due to some reason with company itself. In that case SL won't work and it would be more of an irration only to see stock climbing up after few days. So SL would work well in some conditions and not in some other.

I have a different perspective for SL. Considering your example of a restaurant, if I know certain products that I have is not in demand I will stop purchasing it. Like softdrinks, coke may sell more over some other local drinks. So I will avoid purchasing it and continue stocking coke. Or it could be vise versa. So for me restaurant would be like Stock Market and the product or service that I sell will be stocks. Just need to understand demand supply and quit with a SL when I see loss in it. So if you feel the trade has gone bad just quit with minimum loss instead stocking more, also called as averaging in market with a hope that things will be fine. For that you need not shut down the restaurant or quit stock market, just need to do adjustment correctly.
