What’s great about this is that it isn’t so ridiculously high off the ground like bigger pickups. You can actually see the area directly in front of you, it’s easy to get into and out of, and easy to load. It’d be nice to have more pickups like this here.

@@ChristopherDivine yah... Many Mav owners in the Maverick Trumck Club forum say those stock tires have paper thin side walls lol... I'm leaning towards Falken Wilpeak A/T trails or just a beefier all season that isn't much heavier than the stock tires. I've read that heavier tires will even kill your acceleration as well as mpg. I value acceleration and mpg over off road capability as I doubt I'd take my Mav on super rough roads regardless of the tires it ends up getting.

I've been driving FWD vehicles for 35 years and they're great in the snow as long as you have good winter tires. Another thing is that even if you can't "lock" the front diff, the traction control will brake a slipping wheel and send torque to the other one. So as long as you have traction on one of the front wheels you won't get stuck. The trick is to go easy on the gas, and let the computer work out the traction on the driving wheels.

The Dash, Windshield Headliner rattle issue was reportedly handled by replacing the Windshield. FORD is evidently not putting enough sealant around the windshield when they install it at the factory. The SAFELITE Repairman told the Maverick owner that there was very little, if any, sealant around the Factory Windshield to allow for expansion and Contraction. This was found out by pure accident since the owners Windshield became cracked and had to be replaced. Ford needs to heed this advice on all their future builds.

My 2023 Ford Maverick hybrid is mostly used for commuting and I'm getting about 47 MPG on average. There are of course three modes Eco, standard, sport and all three of them are good depends on how you like to drive and if you're willing to spend a little more on gas. Towing capabilities are good as well as hauling and overall it's a fantastic vehicle that I would recommend to anybody.

In my hybrid XL I get 36mpg going 75mph on interstate. Got 46.7mpg in town driving in the summer in Connecticut. It is less efficient in cold weather when ICE engine is on more frequently. As far as brakes grabbing & shuddering, as I became used to driving with regenerative brakes in all situations it no longer happens & usually get high percentages on the coaching display. If you had signed up for Ford Pass you would’ve gotten points for buying your Maverick enough to get nice Maverick logo Weather Tech style floor mats for free with points left over.

I bought the AWD with tow package. Had it nearly a year now. On long haul trips in eco mode I was getting about 25-26 MPG…. But generally around 24 mpg for local suburban driving. The one thing I will say os that I have often had 1200 plus pounds in the bed and the eco boost engine with tow package and AWD handles that weight like its not even there. Don’t notice any changes in handling. All in all, I am glad I chose the ecoboost over the hybrid. While its my daily driver, I work at home and so I don’t actually drive every day.

Dang, I work from home with the Hybrid Mav. I ordered back in 2021 to replace a FWD car, but now I could really use the AWD. Still debating to keep this thing. Maybe I just need to go more places.
@langhamp8912
@langhamp8912 Жыл бұрын
I've got the XL with awd and tow package as well, and I get 32 mpg mixed usage. I've always been able to get great gas mileage from all the cars and motorcycles I've owned, but the Maverick requires great skill and attention to get 32 mpg. First of all, there seems to be very poor fuel economy below 40 mph and that includes acceleration...no matter how slow or fast your accelerate you're getting pretty bad mpg. And above 65 mph the fuel economy sinks like a stone. With most compact cars you can accelerate slowly and cost to the next red light but with the Maverick you might as well burn hard and coast. The Maverick does have an instantanous mpg, and just turning that on does give a good sense of where to be more fuel efficient.
@christopherpardell4418
@christopherpardell4418 Жыл бұрын
@@langhamp8912 SO, one thing I figured out is that its MPG is the average since reset. Once your MPG shows around 22 or 24, it seems to never budge. But when I reset all the indicators before a recent 1,000 trip, driven almost exclusively in eco-mode, I got 28.7 mpg on that one trip. Its a small 4 banger, and it has 8 forward gears, so when in eco mode it tries to use the highest gear it can for any speed to bring the tach low… but acceleration kicks in the turbo, which eats gas fast. SO the key to low mileage is steady cruising speeds as much as possible. Don’t brake hard, because that will mean accelerating on the other side of it. So just very gradual accelerations, and looking far down the road and letting your foot off the gas for it to slow down rather than waiting until you have to brake for slowing traffic. The 8 gears are what give these smaller engines the ability to deliver Both good fuel economy AND high power when requested… the sport mode simply uses a lower gear for any given speed to keep the turbo spinning and ready power available.
@langhamp8912
@langhamp8912 Жыл бұрын
@@christopherpardell4418 One big problem is that I cannot hear the turbo when it engages. Sure, there's the instant MPG but by then it is too late because you're already sucking gas. I do reset my trip meter every time I fill up. I think the worst I've ever done (the first tank) was 27 mpg. Usually it's above 30 mpg mixed but with great care I do get it above 32 mpg. Like you say, I pretty much only use the brakes during an emergency. Great little car, though. Still waiting for the bedliner which costs $152 after summer20 and the 42,000 Ford points.

Enjoyed your video, I like the Maverick truck, even though I will probably never own one. I did inherit my Dad's 2001 Ranger 2wd, and would like to go with a more aggressive tire. I see you like the Nitto Nomad Grapplers, how about road noise with these tires? Granted, I won't be doing any serious off roading with the Ranger, but I would like something a little more capable. Thanks!

I like this vehicle, but for me, no AWD it is a full pass and I prefer this hybrid over the full gas version. Ford needs to offer AWD as an option... does not need to be a major off road vehicle, but the basic traction issues you mention would be addressed if they step up.

If my civic si can do light of roading, then so can the fwd hybrid haha. Awd is overrated IMHO. Unless you live on a steep driveway and get lots of snow in a area that doesn't get reliability plowed, fwd is fine.

4800?miles on the display …Long term review? I just came up on my 1 yr and I’m at 36,000 + trouble free miles 22 Xl Hybrid w/360 no dash rattles or noises, & I’ve not experienced a hot shifter dial. I’ve carried 1250 lbs of coal and many smaller loads without issue and I’d have to say handling was better than expected with a heavy load (a little squash in the back and lift in the front but manageable)- I’ve seen another review with a 1 yr owner at iver 50,000 miles! I ordered the rubber mats thru Ford and the back seat ones were included they also gave me the carpet floor mats for the front. Ive done some light overlanding with a rtt over the bed. Driven it coast to coast and back and thru 23 states and one Canadian province. Also I had the recall for the air shutter mod. done.

Nice looking Mav! Thanks for your review. We are waiting our XLT EB FX4 any day now. Any comments on having a bed rack to transport bicycles vs. hitch rack? We have bike racks meant for a rail system but I can see how a bed rack may not allow access to bed as easily with tonneau cover.

This is my exact use case for this vehicle. Thanks for the real world review. It just don't want to pay 41K for a spec I want. And that is used! I can buy a brand new full size for that. I would have to order new and wait to get a decent price truck with the spec I want. The increase mileage won't save more than a payment or two per year. Wife wants a toy hauler and comfortable highway vehicle which my current truck will haul and is comfortable. It gets about 14 mpg and will only tow so much in a toy hauler (want to stay under 5K). I have been toying with the idea of a second vehicle and keep the current truck for just that. It does have 275K on it though as even with a toy hauler I doubt I would see it more than 5 weekends a year, with maybe a trip to the mountains to ride. I would use it for light camping at enduro races.... traveling with a single or two bikes in the bed or on a small trailer ( I have one currently). I don't need a full on off road vehicle, but something with moderate ground clearance. I would personally spec a AWD version with the tow package even if it dropped to 26 its way better than the current 14... maybe 15 on the highway. I work from home and don't commute unless I'm in the field for work which is not a whole lot. So, mileage won't be a ton of around town and most of it is riding trips. Races are typically a 5 hr each way commute. My highway would likely be less than yours. Typical ride day involves 150 mile drive each way at TX interstate speeds (85 ish for a long periods). Even at 85 your getting passed!

@@fordmaverickmaniac Given my miles and a average of 3 bucks a gallon it only pays for likely a single payment, but I'd do really to keep the larger truck for just truck stuff. @@fordmaverickmaniac Def. on the rise here, but likely won't see anything over 4 and likely won't stay there. I use to haul stuff... tools work for work. Will be a bit before I can swing one though and by then there might be a viable used one floating about. Just keeping my eyes open for the future though.

These tires are a 1/2-inch taller and a 1/2-inch wider. Not much difference. I am looking at the Ford Maverick as a larger vehicle for my household. One of the things I always have to look out for in vehicle shopping is whether I will fit. I am 6' 7" tall. Do you think that there is enough head room for someone my height in this vehicle?
@DrivingLine
@DrivingLine Жыл бұрын
I've never had anyone in the truck even close to that tall. So, I can't really say. It's fairly roomy for a compact cab, so you might be OK. The obvious challenge I see is how far you'll likely need to move the seat back to accommodate your height. It might make the seat behind you almost not useable.
@collinis1

I don’t know if you will fit. But I tried out the interior in all the mid-sized trucks on the market before getting the Maverick and it was about the same size as all of them and bigger than the Tacoma. If you don’t fit in a Maverick you likely will need to upsize to a full size truck

I think they are going way over market used here currently. I don't think it will let up. Best price locally would be the spec through the dealer and wait. Avoid one trying to mark up one that is on the lot. I ran into that with my wife's car. Wanted a 5K mark up over MSRP. Ended up buying a used one with 7K on the clock and 1 year out of new roughly 7 to 10 less that I got at a dealer. That was a SUV. Trucks are not letting up like that right now. Been expecting them to drop.... they are not.
