Glad to hear it. Everyone goes on about the manuals being the best but I should also have mentioned that the clutch config can cause crank movement which will destroy an engine. The GTA auto is the car it was designed to be with full integration of the systems and no costly clutch changes. Yes it’s slightly slower to accelerate, and top speed, but with its transition from modern to classic status it’s now all a bit academic. I hope to do more with it. Thanks for subscribing. Ed

Great review! Finally a review by someone who knows what they're talking about, and not just a journalist. I have a manual 3200 GT in exactly the same colour as your test car, and absolutely love it - my car is also one of the last 3200 GT's being a 2002 car. I am considering buying a second 3200 GT, but an automatic car, for more everyday use, particularly as they are as cheap as chips - but for how much longer 🤔?

Very nice to see a review made by someone who actually understands this car. To me, well done! Agree with you on decision about gearbox, since the manual I felt to be a complete different car, a lot faster, but then heavy on clutch which is very noticeable in traffic. Auto is more comfortable, yet still fast enough to overtake when needed. Maintenance and patience may be a high price, but never expensive considering the experience owner gets in return.

Hi! I can't believe your video has only 400 views. Well done - the video is informative, interesting to watch and edited very well! You actually own/drive/review I really like myself, such as this 3200GT and Giulia Quadrifoglio. I am actually thinking of selling my Integrale Evo to buy a Giulia QV and your videos on the Giulia are really helpful.

Thanks. The 3200GT really is a niche vehicle so I don’t expect it to do as well as my QV one. It’s only been live for a day so time will tell. I’m not really chasing views but if people like it and I help in a decision then that’s all that matters. I’m having fun making them. Keeps me out of trouble! 😜 Ed

Superb professional review. Am doing a load of homework before treating myself to a retirement present, narrowed the choice now to a Maserati 3200 4200 or GT v. Giulia QV. Your knowledge passed on through your reviews has been invaluable. Many thanks.

Thanks Paul. Glad to be of some help. The 3200 in my opinion is the more interesting due to its rarity. Build quality on the Maserati is far superior and the pace is all you’ll ever need for a road car. The Alfa is technically more advanced, has better infotainment and is probably the more reliable for longer trips abroad. Both are an excellent choice and I find myself very privileged to be able to enjoy both. Regards. Ed

Very good review of the Maserati 3200 GT. After having owned several high-priced and fast cars in my life (up to Mercedes CL 65 AMG, Aston Martin DB7, Ruf Rturbo and others), I am currently looking for a Maserati 3200 GT, as it was the first new sports car I sat in in my life - at the IAA in Frankfurt/Main - and that makes a lasting impression. It is only through this retrospective that I consider a GTA to make sense for me, as I am looking for a fast touring car and otherwise still own manual cars. A Jaguar XJR 4.0 could also join the list. :) Thanks and all the best!

A delightful and first-rate review. Thank you. A few years back The Elf told me I was falling asleep at the wheel of my old BRG Jaguar. She said "Now you're old (ouch) and lame, you need something sensible! Cheap to service, easy to park and GET IN AND OUT OF and above all Economical." Obviously, the 3200 GT ticked all the boxes. My beautiful, timeless, always-specialist-serviced Ragazza Cattiva is indeed the BRILLIANT automatic and she is pure joy. Amazingly even with four 13-stone grown-ups comfortably aboard, she adores hills and bends and handles as perfectly as when one is alone. Long may spares be available, for I'm in love.

The boomerang lights wouldn't have looked as good on the later Spyder as that car also has a third brake light above the Maserati script on the bootlid. Otherwise the light would have had to be inset into the top of the bootlid which handily slopes down

Park light button in panel is just for park lights without keys turning (not for park sensors). Front low ball joints are not separately replaceable (whole low lever assy need to be replaced) Front upper level ball joint is replaceable separately. It's interesting to see the difference between these and the 4200, not just the lights. The bonnets were different, the rear 3/4 was slightly different, but the biggest is the front pillar. On the 3200 the windscreen pillar is moulded into the top if the front wings, the 4200 has a nasty panel gap instead.
@Back_Road_Hero3 ай бұрын
I’d no idea there were these other subtle differences other than the engine and rear lights.

@@Back_Road_Hero obviously the bonnet doesn't have the vents on the 4200, and it's more curved to clear the engine. The bumber joins are different between if you look carefully - the 4200 has a join at halfway up headlight, the 3200 has the join lower at the bottom (where the lower curve begins) of the headlight. Another distinguishing mark though is the Maserati oval plaque on the front that is only on all 4200's and not on 3200's. The rear 3/4 panel is also curved slightly differently.

Thanks. We bought this at auction Bob knowing it had a couple of issues. Check engine light and suspension error. Engine light was the throttle body (very common). Suspension error was a strut. All fixed for about £1000. These are still less than half the cost of a Ferrari 456GT which is regarded as the entry level Ferrari GT and represent massive value for money. We took the gamble and haven’t looked back. 😁 Ed

Good work. I'm taking informations about the 3200GT since years now and it is the best video I ever see on this car. I will probably buy a manual one only due to short driving (less than 3000km/year) I allready have others cars but in my opinion for someone that want enjoy his car long journeys and roadtrips the auto is the one to buy ! Of course I think the manual will rise more in value instead of the auto. Here in continental Europe the prise differences between an auto with 160k km (100k miles) and a manual 80k km (50k miles) is about only 5k€ so will look after a "low" mileage manual one for holding the value. By the way this car is an absolute bargain for the price ! I want to buy mine as soon as possible I fear a quick rising of the price. Enjoy yours guys is one of the most beatiful modern car !

Fantastic review. I think I may have found the car to replace my Alfa Giulietta QV. The Giulia QV values are too strong for my budget but these are remarkably affordable these days. I'm happy with mostly DIY maintenance and have a good independent for the big stuff. I'm thinking that values on the 3200GT have probably bottomed out by now so could be an appreciating asset. Thank you for the review. I get your logic with the auto 3200, as the cost of the clutch and potential limited mileage of the 4200 cambiocorsa puts a doubt in my mind. I have found a 3200gta for £8750 compared to £10k for a 4200. I'm concerned about the age difference and reliability of the electronics and the idea that the 4200 has modified and improved parts/build. I simply cannot decide on which model...?
@Back_Road_Hero Жыл бұрын
The 3200 is more collectible and actually more powerful. The 4200 auto will cost you more in the long run. The manual 3200 can also suffer from ‘crank float’ because the disengagement of the clutch puts pressure on it making the auto less troublesome. That being said buy the car in the best condition re bodywork and servicing. There’s no such thing as a cheap Maserati to maintain. Hope this helps? Ed
