This setup is awesome. I just hiked rim to rim in the Grand Canyon and had no issues with camera weight. I had many people ask me what it was and how I liked it as well. Carried a canon 7D and a 35lb pack.

By the way, I also like your wedding photography. I'm more into landscapes but friends have asked me to start into wedding photography as well. I was also looking into the Peak Design Capture Pro holster, but the fact that using on camera flash in some cases seems not ideal if the camera points horizontally off the hip. Your thoughts on it?

I shoot with either this set up or the Black Rapid double, I have found that in most cases I prefer the Spider belt set up and only use the black rapid double on occasions when I need constant retention of cameras. There isn't a perfect camera set up but this belt is definitely a great bit of kit.

Thank you for the detailed review. I have been using the black rapid double strap and the tropical climate in India makes me sweat a lot with it .. another plus point to make the switch.

Great review, especially closeups of the features in use. How does it work with DSLR bodies with battery packs? Have your tried one camera on the Spider Holster, and one around the neck with a strap? I love my Black Rapid strap.

I own the double spider holster and can honestly say it is amazing. You do look like a cowboy which is a bit silly but it is the best option out there. You MUST ensure that you hear a loud click when fastening the buckle each time you put the belt on for the time. Ensure you cannot open it by pushing down the two release buttons. Sometimes IT WILL release! If you have clicked it into place correctly it should only open by pressing in the two release buttons and then a third safety button ........Beware. That said WOW this system is cool. I can direct the bride and groom effortlessly and move around faster and take those all important shots as quick as Billy the kid at the OK coral. ( sorry cowboy reference had to happen ) BUY this product you will not regret it.

Very thorough review, I love that you mentioned things that I perhaps wouldn't have noticed until after I had been using this for some time. Nonetheless you have me sold.

Hi - I purchased just the single - I cut out a exercise mat pad - and added some industrial Velcro to hold the cut piece of mat. - cut out the shape to fit the holster. This piece fits in between your leg and the holster. This works very well - especially when you are walking up a mountain or stairs. Adjust the belt to make sure that the holster is not directly on your hip joint. I can use this single system by putting the buckle to my back (turn the belt counterclockwise). I have used this on the left (the buckle will be located on your back.) or right. Also I use a blackrapids strap (on the right side) - if I have 2 camera. This works well.... along with Greg's video... Hope this helps....

Great review! I use the single version, and yours looks more balanced with both.

Karen Julia thank you. I definitely would have missed having both sides. Not everyone shoots two bodies though. The cost for the extra one isn't high so why not😁

Really great review as I was tired of those "official" ones where everything is perfect. I would like to ask you... what do you think about Capture Clip Pro V2? I want to buy a quick system, but I don't know what to choose for a 5DM2 with 70-200IS2.8L. Thank you!
@greglumley82499 жыл бұрын
Sorin Ciaia Hi Sorin, did you ever buy one? I didn't know the "Capture Clip" so couldn't have advised anyway.. I'm curious to know what you decided on in the end.
@sorinciaia26919 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg Lumley, I didn't but if I will buy one.. I will buy Spider. That was my conclusion in the end because I have heavy body and lens.

The setup did not work for me. My legs were getting numb. So I removed the black belt and attached the clip to a military surplus pistol belt. With a pistol belt I had the versatility to add suspenders for better weight distribution, water canteen on the contra lateral side for hydration and weight balance as I have only one camera body, a buttpack for additional carrying option. Also I added a Peak Design lens holder. Yes I look like a cosplayer, I feel function is more important. I do not need/want to be discreet.

Great review - most reviews are way to verbose, you were wonderfully succinct. Would you recommend this system for hiking?
@GregLumleyPhotography7 жыл бұрын
Hi Charlie, thank you :-) I'd say this wouldn't be a great solution for hiking since the camera's bounce around quite a bit. It would be uncomfortable to hiking and certainly not great for the cameras. For hiking I might recommend something like a peak-design capture clip (link below) this is because the body would be more sturdy on a belt. It's not as quick to use particularly getting the camera back into place. This of course also depends on what camera you had in mind... a full size dslr with a 70-200 2.8 wouldn't be an option.
@charliereynolds7 жыл бұрын
+GregLumleyPhoto thanks for the reply! I've ordered one so I'll give it a try and then sell if necessary, although I'll probably keep hold of it for weddings and family shoots anyway. I've considered a strap like the one you've mentioned but because some of the hiking I do is very scrambly and involves climbing, I'm keen to have something to ensure the camera never swings away from my body and into rocks. We'll be using a 70-200/2.8L IS ii professionally but I'd never take it up a mountain. I'm excited to get my hands on it!

Is there a maximum weight that you cannot exceed?
@GregLumleyPhotography8 жыл бұрын
SirSilverFox I'm sure there is, I think that it would become too uncomfortable with heavy weights before it failed through
