He also started the reduction in Taxes the ultra wealthy had to pay. I believe it was in the 1950's that corporate tax rate was at 70%. That rate work just fine and there was less wealth disparity and plenty of money to assist those in need. That rate is down to IDK 28-30% now...time to swing that pendulum back to at least 50%. It will not cause layoffs or any other Boogeymen that the Republicans always insist. Time to have it trickle up, instead of down. I remember just before Trump left office last time he made a big public spectacle about cutting 100 EPA regulations, and he had all the reporters there and cameras filming him sign it. And it was the most baffling thing I ever seen, because Trump supporters were all excited about it and how much it’s gonna help them, and so I looked up the list of regulations he cut and they all things like this, this was one of ‘em: “Toxic waste pool lining requirements and maintenance (or something to that effect) Act” and it was about having to use a certain thicknesses of certain materials for outdoor toxic waste pools for different kinds of chemicals and how often they need to be replaced due to chemical damage. How many of those cheering Trump supporters ya think owns their own oil refineries or chemical plants? 🫤 The sad part is, I bet a heck of a lot more of em live close enough near one to one to be poisoned by them when their toxic waste pools without lining seep chemicals into the local water table. I call myself a “corporate baby”. No one in my family was self employed, and I never learned how to function as a self employed person. So, in my forties I started researching and was so intimidated by the rules and laws and codes that I never proceeded with launching my business. I managed everything except the tax laws…they were so mind boggling, I couldn’t deal with it. I had pushed my plan through the Dept of Ag in my state, winning that small battle. I set up the business entity, the bank accounts, had customers lined up, had figured out how much I had to sell to earn the amount of profit I needed to live on….but I was TERRIFIED of messing up on the taxes. The tax laws were horrible and confusing. As I had researched different business ideas, I found that laws always leaned into inhibiting small individual startups, inhibiting competition to big/established business. I saw that big businesses got financial breaks unavailable to small businesses. I actually won my battle by finding an obscure law intended to help a big industry. Handing the government directly to business guys is the stupidest idea ever.

So what will replace these government services exactly? I used to be a volunteer in the Upward Bound afterschool program that is directly funded by Department of Education. Upward Bound has been a extremely successful program that allows professionals like myself help low income students through tutoring and mentoring. Past UB graduates include astronaut Jose Hernandez, Senator Raphael Warnock, Oprah. My role was to teach these students STEM, the very same thing Vivek and Musk say we need. @mobius4897 How many things do you think the local states can do? The reality is that red states use more of these programs although they produce less revenue and pay less taxes at federal level. If you look at statistics the ones who will suffer will be primarely red states because the local administration won't have money for all these programs like public schooling, Obamacare, social security etc. Big states like California and New York, which are traditionally liberal, have been sending their money to red states for years through these federal programs. Some states will be impacted a lot once the republicans start enacting their projects for 2025.
