In this week's episode of "When will Matt realize he's made a mistake?" we see how long it takes before he realizes that his well is no longer connected... yup bringing well water from really far away to water his orchard

If there's no road limit, it's better to make them as short as possible, so there's more movers per unit length, so each road can move more stuff
@iheartninja3 ай бұрын
There is no road limit, they need to be at least 2 grid places long is the only limitation. The best way to do it is to have multiple paths for each resource to move along, since they do build up queues as more materials get transported.
@matheusjahnke86433 ай бұрын
I'm not sure that's as useful as you make it out to be; More nodes means more overhead lost loading/unloading between movers and nodes... which increases latency(the time it takes to move stuff). Not sure if the increase in the throughput(how much stuff it can move) is worth.
@Alex-05973 ай бұрын
@@matheusjahnke8643It should increase throughout by increasing the number of items that can move simultaneously. The delay between each item delivery is essentially the time of the longest road section, since that's the bottleneck
@chimeforest3 ай бұрын
@@matheusjahnke8643 It depends if you want to move a single item, or lots of items. If you want to move a single item, it is best to have fewer/longer roads for the item to move across, as fewer sections means faster travel, but only for 1 item. If you want to move lots of items, it is better to have many/shorter roads. If you make a road with 5 sections, it can carry 5 items. Even if each item is slightly slower than on the long road, it makes up for it with volume. This is the preferred method. There's even a quick tutorial example which encourages this... or at least there was when I played the demo a couple months back.

HI! Usually do not comment, but I have in the past. I still listen to your videos to fall asleep to sometimes. I also actually watch them as well when I am not tired. It's your narration, you do it well. I like that you have musically experimented as well, don't sell yourself short, harmonizing even with programs that help you do it, is not easy. Cheers!

This is a minimalist remake of a 1990s game called "Settlers" (also known as Serf City), so if anyone is going to sue them, it's UBISOFT. The original was all about warfare though - you had to build your kingdom quickly enough to reach the enemy and take their lands before they could grab all the resources from the map and beat you into submission. Otherwise though, this is a very similar game.

Looking at his road network setup I almost think he was an architect as an engineer would have tried to keep the roads as grid-like as possible. Also if I remember correctly you only need one center once the houses are built you can use the areas around those houses to keep expanding

hmm... interesting, it's basically the settlers 2 logistic system except it's build backward, you have to build segment by segment rather that just make the whole thing and then subdivide. but i think a square grid makes it quite restricted. the game doesn't seem that interesting beyond that though...
