Easy tip for science buildings: just make them lowest priority. Then whenever you pause other buildings, spare beavers will go work science, and when you unpause them they'll go right back to that job. This way you never have to manage your science buildings.

@@duythuchoang5095 in a lot of ways I think this is for content. He's not playing optimally. Like he absolutely shouldn't be on 16 hour work days this early in the game. At least for some pre-dry season sprint it can be increased to 18 or even 20.

Soon enough, in about 2 or so dry seasons, your river will dry up during dry season. So you'll either need a water dump or need to construct a water tank with levees at the waterfall. I strongly suggest planting as many trees as possible already, so that they are there when you need them.

For efficient space usage, consider putting platforms on top of the river. Build on top of the platforms on the river. Make sure to leave a few holes for adding puddle spaces after your beavers invent dynamite. the puddles will help keep the area hydrated during long dry seasons.

Just a little tip for your food situation. Beavers plant faster than they harvest food so what I like to do is have 1 planter for every 2 harvesters. So the best setup in my opinion is to have 3 farmhouses with one set to planting and the other two for harvesting. Alternatively you can have 2 farm houses with just 1 planter in one and 2 harvesters in the other. This will save you a job slot early on and ensure you are planting as quickly as you are harvesting.

@lapisanyta
@lapisanyta Жыл бұрын
It's better to build up with levees than dig down in this map. You need a lot of beavers and resources to get to dynamite quickly, but the map is too small to grow enough trees, and you will encounter 15+ days drought way earlier. Plus you can only dig 3 levels under the river and that's not enough when you are reaching late game. Eventually you will need to build up to make a reservoir, it's better to start building it first.
@OriginalPiMan
@OriginalPiMan Жыл бұрын
I go for a mix. I deepen the river in little pockets so plants can still grow for a while after I've drained the main length, but then I dedicate about a quarter of the map at the base of the waterfall to a very tall reservoir.

RCE, just a quick note, breeding pods mostly work in averages of 10s per pod, with 3 breeding pods you will be handling an average of 30 beavers once the game catches on (May take 60 or so beaver days, it depends on resources and on their life quality). Also, if you want wood, it's probably best to grow pine trees in the green section next to the oaks, they need about 12 days for 6-8 logs, which in the long term is more than the oaks. I would also recommend looking into building a dam near the waterfall area as everything is quite likely to dry up in a 12-17 day dry season
@WJS774
@WJS774 2 ай бұрын
What are you talking about? Pines give _two_ logs after 12 days, not 6-8. Oaks give significantly more per day.

@chrisflanagan7564 Жыл бұрын
@@scandelis1306 Yeah, planting a mix is best. A few rows of fast growing Birch, a few rows of Pine, and a few rows of Oak. That way you get some lumber quickly, but once you've cleared that area, then the slower growing but higher yield trees are ready to be harvested, and eventually the high yield oaks are ready. If you balance it right, you should be able to plant trees at the same rate that they are cleared, and phase out the low yielders for higher yielding trees. Someone should always be planting, and someone always harvesting.
@cathygrandstaff1957
@cathygrandstaff1957 Жыл бұрын
Yeah the sheer amount of unused green space is killing me. I also generally don’t do birch because it’s just 4 more days to Pine and that doubles the output, I usually do a mix of half Pine half Maple/Oak, then phase out the pine in favor of Maple/Oak once my log situation stabilized. I wish the game would let me mark an area to be replanted with a different tree than is currently planted there though.

Great video. 😊 You’re going to need a lot more water both in storage and in the river. I suggest a bigger dam where the berries are. You can always make the dry bits green with a water dump and a 1x1 “pond” surrounded by the levees. Tuck it in a corner of land or better yet make a 3x3 pond and add a water dump, shower, lido, depth marker. All that plus it feeds your crops.

Just a well-meant tip. You should as soon as possible begin to build a dam to restrain a lot more water. The droughts will get pretty hefty pretty soon. I've played this map on hard myself and had to wall almost half of the map to restrain enough water for the late game droughts. And don't forget, the more beaver you have the more water you'll need.

for the water source, you should turn it into a reservoir by putting dynamite in the middle to make it deeper and putting the floodgates on the waterfall side, a benefit to this layout is that right when the water comes back either a. the floodgates will already be down so the water can then flow directly into the river or b. you could lower the floodgates to make it a direct connection.

9 days to 1 log = 9 days cost per log 12 days to 2 logs = 6 days cost per log 30 days to 8 logs = 3.75 days cost per log While the wait for the oak is a lot longer up front, the day cost per log is far more effective. In the time for a birch to grow 4 four times it takes one oak to grow, but the oak will provide over twice the amount of logs. Paired with a naturally staggered plant time and a natural cap on harvesting speed and once you get oaks growing, you will have a consistent supply of logs that will generally fund your entire industrialization production single handedly. Which means that you can reduce the size of your forest to what you specifically need, like taking up that entire side of the bank, and use the rest of the fertile land for food production.

You can wait until a breeding pod is about to pop and pause it. It will let you keep a small population of beavers incase a drought wipes out your main population.

Dunno, but I remember a cartoon about two beavers, wich could count as a soap (if timberborn counts, a cartoon may as well) and as far I remember it had a pretty sick theme song. I think it was called beaver brothers (at least in my language) and I think I liked it. But I can't really remember anything, but something about a tree stomp...

Just an idea, what about flooding that low area you're using for forestry for long term water pumps

That is what I did, levee around the corner 1 high. That is the only logical place to do it that I could think of.

@@--_DJ_--I prefer not doing that because it's got a lot of flat area good for building, AND that would leave your reservoir with large surface area which increases evaporation loss supposedly. I tend to start a mega dam from the base of the waterfall over to the metal mountain, and eventually walling off the gap at the "back" of the map. Gets me a reservoir only about 4 across, can go like 5 deep, and put a gate in front to slow release to the riverbed. It does take a lot of logs to finish, but holds tons of water and you can do it incrementally over time as you grow more trees (which is easy to do in the flats by the lower river.

@@michaelsorensen7567 That might be an idea later on. I didn't have near enough water for hard mode so that was about the only early game choice to keep me going. (I only did the very lowest part in the corner not the whole lower section where you start) I was thinking about cutting in a channel at the top and letting the water irrigate the upper flat land for more crops. Getting by now "cheating" with small levees around a water dump and keeping things alive through the drought that way.

I flood that area, but not for pumping. I flood it so I can grow the plants that only grow in shallow water.

Should probably invest in a small patch of birch just to have a constant trickle of emergency supplies.
